About this listen

Good afternoon. Washington. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside and you'll feel that damp chill cutting through your jacket. We picked up a tenth of an inch of rain overnight. And it's still falling. Temperatures are sitting at 46 degrees — about 27 degrees above normal for early March, but that wet cold makes it feel colder than the number suggests. Around Puget Sound, steady rain sticks with you through noon with highs near 52 before temperatures drop this afternoon. Down in the South Sound, rain wraps up by 4 P.M. With highs hitting 53. Head east and it's a completely different day. Eastern Washington sees partly sunny skies with a high near 57, but gusty southwest winds to 22 miles an hour with gusts hitting 38. Hold onto your hats out there. Tonight brings the drama. Snow levels crash from 6,000 feet down to 1,500 feet by early evening. Puget Sound drops to 36 with rain mixing to snow overnight. South Sound falls to 33 with a rain and snow mix developing. Eastern Washington clears out and plunges to 30 degrees. Monday turns active. Rain and snow mix across western Washington through the day. Highs struggle to reach the mid-40s. The Cascades are under a Winter Storm Warning with 1 to 2 feet of snow expected by Tuesday morning. Here's your week ahead. Wednesday brings the heaviest mountain snow and strongest winds, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 miles an hour statewide. Rain continues Thursday and Friday with highs in the upper 40s. The weekend stays unsettled with lingering showers. Don't forget — clocks spring forward tonight. You lose an hour of sleep but gain more evening daylight. See you this evening.
