You are not overthinking because you are broken. You are overthinking because life keeps handing you situations with absolutely no instruction manual.

The Overthinker’s Handbook is a raw, honest, and sometimes uncomfortably relatable podcast about toxic relationships, breakups, attachment styles, health, wellness, identity, work, confidence, and the everyday struggles nobody prepares you for.

We talk about the big heartbreaks and the strangely specific struggles. Emotional unavailability. Anxious and avoidant attachment. Starting over after a breakup. Women navigating corporate spaces. Body changes. Self-image. Burnout. Mental health. Friendships. Family patterns. Dating. Healing. And all the complicated, awkward, deeply human experiences that tend to live quietly behind closed doors.

No topic is too uncomfortable, too personal, too messy, or too random.

  • Pursuer-Withdrawer Burnout: The Final Stage of the Anxious-Avoidant Cycle
    Jul 24 2026

Are you emotionally exhausted from constantly chasing connection, initiating difficult conversations, and trying to repair a relationship while your partner continues to withdraw?

In this episode, we explore 12 signs of pursuer burnout and 15 things you need to know about the pursuer-withdrawer attachment cycle. This painful relationship pattern commonly appears in anxious-avoidant relationships, where one partner seeks reassurance, communication, intimacy, and emotional connection while the other partner copes by shutting down, stonewalling, distancing themselves, or asking for more space.

You’ll learn why the pursuer often begins overfunctioning in the relationship, carrying the emotional labor, monitoring the relationship, initiating every repair conversation, and repeatedly asking for the bare minimum. I also examine why the withdrawing partner may experience these attempts at connection as pressure, criticism, conflict, or evidence that they are failing.

Over time, unresolved conflict, emotional neglect, broken promises, missing apologies, rejection, and failed repair attempts create emotional debt. The anxious partner may become resentful, emotionally unavailable, detached, and eventually apathetic. They may stop sending messages, stop initiating affection, stop asking for reassurance, and begin imagining a life outside the relationship.

This is known as pursuer-withdrawer burnout, or the point when the partner who has been fighting to save the relationship becomes too emotionally exhausted to keep chasing.

A healthy relationship cannot survive indefinitely when one person is always pursuing connection and repair while the other repeatedly withdraws. Breaking the pursuer-distancer cycle requires both partners to understand their attachment wounds, regulate their nervous systems, take accountability, communicate consistently, and participate in rebuilding emotional safety.
