As the sun sets, A messy storm system is bearing down on Michigan tonight. And it's bringing two completely different flavors of chaos. South gets severe thunderstorms. North gets ice. Let's break it down. Southeast Michigan, you're starting mild — 64 degrees this afternoon with scattered showers and possible thunderstorms through 10 A.M. but the real action hits after 8 P.M. Rain and thunderstorms roll in, some potentially severe with damaging winds and hail. Heavy rain continues through Wednesday morning, totaling near an inch, lows drop to 44 overnight before Wednesday climbs back to 61. As the sun sets. West Michigan, similar story, today's high hits 58 with scattered showers. Tonight, those showers turn to thunderstorms — some strong to severe — with temperatures falling to 38. Wednesday brings more rain and thunderstorms before flipping to snow showers by afternoon. High of 45. Northern Michigan, you stay cooler and drier today — just 44 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. But tonight's the concern. Rain transitions to freezing rain and sleet after 8 P.M., creating dangerous travel Wednesday morning. Up north near Traverse City, you'll hit 51 degrees with partly sunny skies. That wind stays brisk through the afternoon before backing off tonight. Overnight stays mild. Southeast Michigan drops to 45 degrees. West Michigan settles near 46 degrees. Northern Michigan cools to 44 degrees. Those southwest winds keep blowing at 10 to 15 miles an hour. Monday brings the real heat. Southeast Michigan soars to 66 degrees — that's 25 degrees above normal for early March. West Michigan reaches 64 degrees. Even up north, you'll hit 60 degrees. Sunshine dominates statewide with breezy southwest winds. For the week. Tuesday stays warm with highs in the mid to upper 60s before everything changes. Showers and thunderstorms roll through this morning, peaking around 11 A.M. With rain likely. Winds howl out of the southwest at 12 to 17 miles an hour, gusting to 32. Highs start at a balmy 66 degrees, but by 7 P.M., temperatures drop like a rock to 40. Tonight, clouds stick around. And lows actually creep back up to 42 after midnight. Sunday brings a reprieve with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s. Over in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, the cold front hits even harder. Thunderstorms are a near-certainty today, with rain before noon. You hit 64 degrees this afternoon—20 degrees above normal—before temperatures fall to 54 by the afternoon. Tonight, lows plummet to 35, then rise overnight as warm air sneaks back in. Sunday looks sunny and 57 degrees.
