About this listen

Let us start by saying welcome to the family at The Crime Collective!
Every episode will see the hosts Ben, Claire and Kitty hit you with a current or historic true crime story followed by some interesting crime facts and perhaps even a special guest or two!
It's not just a grizzly murder show - we take our subject seriously but we do love some banter and laughter along the way to keep ourselves sane.
Feel free to reach out @ tcrimecollective@gmail.com with any questions or hit us up on the Facebook group.
Take care and we will see you soon!

  • Episode 98: Darlene Geertsema
    Feb 12 2026

Welcome to episode 98, in which Claire and Ben finally return from their prolonged break and discuss some changes in the future of the podcast.
Claire then tells the main story about the disappearance of 30-year-old mother of six, Darlene Geertsema, from Devonport, Tasmania, in 1978. While police at the time ruled out foul play, it took one daughter's persistence and the dedication of a female police officer to reopen the investigation more than 30 years later. Hear who the coroner blamed for Darlene's death and what has happened with the case since.
Trigger warning - discussion of domestic violence.
Ben then finishes things off with the dramatic 2014 Stockton Bank of the West robbery, hostage taking and wild police pursuit that had a tragic ending.

  • Episode 97: Amanda Carter
    Nov 13 2025

Welcome to episode 97, in which Claire is joined by her brother Matt as she tells the story of a Tasmanian case that was one of the earliest in Australia to use DNA technology to help bring a murderer to justice.
It began in 1980, when Amanda Carter was out in Hobart celebrating her upcoming 22nd birthday with her sister. But after leaving a pub in the early hours of the morning, the pair walked to a taxi rank with two men they had befriended and Amanda was never seen alive again...
Despite an exhaustive police investigation it would be another 13 years before technology had advanced far enough to help convict her killer.
And to finish things off Matt delivers on his promise from the last time they all recorded together to share the tale of Charles 'Boney' Anderson, the hapless convict who was punished by being chained to a rock on an island in Sydney Harbour for two years!
