  • Being Well in Healthcare with Dr Jodie Fleming
    Oct 29 2023

In this episode of The Business of Health Podcast, we are joined by Dr. Jodie Fleming, a Health & Clinical Psychologist, and co-founder of Being Well Collective with Eve. Jodie delves into the vital topic of mental wellbeing and flourishing and emphasizes the power of intentional thoughts and actions in shaping our happiness, sharing the empowering statistic that only 10% of our overall well-being is influenced by external life events.

Dr. Jodie sheds light on the significant impact of social media on mental health, drawing parallels with an insightful study on Olympic medalists. The comparison dynamics between silver and bronze medalists highlight the role of perception in influencing our mood and wellbeing.

Jodie, Trisha and Eve, discuss the challenges faced by young adults in today's world, where comparisons and societal expectations can lead to burnout. They explore the importance of managing self-expectations and being aware of internal drivers, distinguishing between motivating factors and fear-based drivers. We reflect upon the simplicity yet challenge of maintaining mental health, drawing attention to the flourishing model and the potential for individuals to move beyond merely preventing mental illness to actively flourishing in their lives.

We finish by discussing the need for support in the journey toward mental wellness. Dr. Fleming acknowledges the gap in service provision and introduces her (and Eve’s) upcoming online course designed to empower individuals with tools and strategies for flourishing. The trio discuss the evolving landscape of mental health in the workplace, with a focus on corporate wellbeing and the potential positive ripple effects of individual flourishing within larger societal contexts.
