Penn State offers a new wave of 2026 D-line prospects

There's no secret that Penn State missed out on its top defensive line prospects, including defenisve tackle Damari Simeon, who chose Ohio State over the Nittany Lions at the end of June. To fill that gap, defensive line coach Deion Barnes has put out a new wave of offers to 2026 defensive tackle prospects. Today, we'll tell you more about Emanuel Ruffin and Djidjou Bah.

Recruiting updates for 2026 and 2027

Next, recruiting reporter Ryan Snyder will dive into the rankings updates for 2026 and 2027. He'll discuss where the movement happened among the committed prospects this cycle and how the integration of Rivals into the On3 rankings system changed the profile of certain players in the class.

We'll also look ahead to 2027 and see where Penn State's top target and commited players landed in the update before the next cycle's junior season. Did Kemon Spell remain near the top of the recruiting rankings? We'll outline where the trio of Spell, receiver Khalil Taylor, and tackle Layton von Brandt found themselves in the updated list.

Penn State head coach James Franklin has captained one of the most consistent programs over the last decade. The team was a regular New Year's Six participant and routinely won ten games during the current stretch from 2016 to 2024. Yet Franklin's biggest critics point to his lack of production in big games and the team's lack of a title during his tenure at Penn State.

So, is Franklin a top-five coach in college football? ESPN's Bill Connelly thinks so. We'll discuss his most recent article about the top historical and active coaches in college football on today's show. We'll also continue our discussion about Penn State's open lifting session with reporter Greg Pickel, and discuss the biggest What Ifs from last year. Finally, we'll dive deep into the numbers to figure out if Penn State should play more three-receiver or two-tight-end sets this year.

Join the BWI Live Show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube! If you can't make the show live, you can always check it out 24/7 on the channel embedded in this article or on the site. Of course, the show is available on demand wherever you get your podcasts.

Penn State head coach James Franklin in elite company

ESPN's Bill Connelly put together a list of the top coaches from the last 20 years of college football. Not only is Franklin on that list for his work at Vanderbilt and Penn State, but he's high on the list. We'll discuss where Franklin ranks in the historic context that Connelly compiled using win above the historic baseline and SP+ ranking.

Connelly went a step further to find the best coaches currently active in the sport. We'll show you where Franklin ranks among the best in his profession and discuss what Connelly's data indicates.

The biggest What Ifs of the 2024 season and a preview of 2025

Penn State's season changed on several important moments that shaped the narrative of the team's postseason run. Pickel discussed the biggest turning points and narratives from last year to reimagine what could have been for the team's title run. We'll discuss those on today's show.

Finally, we'll preview the upcoming season by discussing how Penn State's offense should change this year, if at all. Offensive coordiantor Andy Kotelnicki's first year in Happy Valley was a huge success. The team was one of the most explosive offenses in college football last year, bringing a dangerous and balanced approach to the field. Still, fans will point to the team's struggles against top opponents and the inconsistencies in its passing game. How can the team tweak that this year? We examined the personnel-level information to determine where explosive plays were generated in the offense.

The Penn State Nittany Lions football team held an open lift for the media on Monday, and Blue White Illustrated was there to check it out. It's the second-to-last event before the start of fall training camp. So, today, we'll discuss what we saw and heard from the program, plus begin previewing fall training camp battles. Penn State strength coach Chuck Losey spoke to the media after the event to outline the team's progress since March. We'll preview his comments during our recurring segment "Between the Lines."

    Penn State lifting session update

We'll start today's show by discussing what we observed from the players during the final phase of summer conditioning under Losey and his staff. The offensive line, defensive line and linebackers worked out in a group on Monday and we'll discuss who stood out from the group.

Next, we'll discuss what Losey and sports performance expert Andrew Nelson had to say about the team's preparations for fall camp. Losey told reporters what he's seen from transfers Trebor Pena and Amare Campbell, as well as his insights into the May freshmen. We'll cover all of that on today's show.

    Fitz's Recruiting Update

The new Rivals 300 dropped for the Class of 2026 this week. Recruiting reporter Sean Fitz will discuss what he thinks of the latest updates and which Penn State players made moves on the list. We'll also discuss the newest offer for Penn State that went out this weekend.

    Penn State Fall Camp Preview

Finally, we'll preview the upcoming season's camp battles to end the show. Losey discussed his goal of making the team "bulletproof" from a physical standpoint to get through the grind of fall training camp and emphasized its importance.

There are nearly a dozen important battles taking place across the Penn State roster this summer, and we'll preview four to start our three-week look at the roster's biggest positional showdowns, starting on July 30.

Penn State football's recruiting class of 2026 received another blow on Wednesday evening when three-star offensive lineman Roseby Lubintus flipped his commitment from the Nittany Lions to Syracuse. We'll discuss the situation on today's show with recruiting reporters Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz. We'll also use today to turn the page from 2026 to 2027 and preview the important names emerging from the summer camp season for the next class.

Join today's show at 10 a.m. on YouTube! The best way to know when we go live is to subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel and enable notifications. That way, you'll be the first to know when we post content or go live! If you can't catch the show live, you can get the replay 24/7 on the channel, here on the site, or anywhere you get your podcasts.

Penn State Class of 2026 takes a hit

Penn State's June recruiting didn't go as planned, with the team losing out on all of it's top targets. Now, the team is losing recruits in July. Lubintus, a New Jersey lineman who committed to the program in the spring, flipped his commitment to Syracuse on Wednesday evening. We'll discuss what why he said he made the change and what it means for the group of offensive linemen in this cycle.

However, it's not all bad news from yesterday. Class of 2027 offensive lineman from Coatesville, Maxwell Hiller included Penn State in his top eight schools. We'll discuss which schools made the list and discuss what the team will need to do to land the next elite lineman prospect from Pennsylvania.

    Introducing the Class of 2027

We've discussed the players individually, but today is the first time we’ll preview the upcoming recruiting cycle in 2027. We’ll discuss the important names to know for Penn State’s next run at a top ten class, including the players committed to program, early names interested in the program, and the team’s top regional prospects.

Snyder recently spoke with Kemon Spell and Isiaah Rogers, two of the top running back prospects for this current cycle. Spell is already a top 15 player nationally and committed to the program. Rogers is a fast-rising regional prospect, who we’ll discuss on the show.

Finally, we’ll discuss the changes to the recruiting calendar for this year. There’s a full dead period between now and the start of the 2025 football season at the end of August. Is that a detriment to Penn State’s chances of landing another recruit for 2027? The team has accomplished strong results at the end of summer in past years. Can they find a way to keep themselves ahead for the next cycle? Join the show to discuss that, plus whatever is on your mind in the live chat!

The Penn State wrestling show from Blue-White Illustrated is back following a short late June hiatus as the Nittany Lions continue to prep for the 2025-2026 college season while also having lots of success on the freestyle circuit with more International tournaments to come.

Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel kick off the show with a look at the latest headlines surrounding the program, including a report that four-time NCAA champ Aaron Brooks is facing a possible suspension after failing a drug test. His father, John, told The Herald Mall that Aaron Brooks took an over-the-counter supplement that contained a banned substance while recovering from an illness. As of the time of this article's posting and the show's recording, no decision about potential punishment from the USADA has been made.

    Penn State news and notes

    Summer conversation series: Drew Allar

Penn State secured two more commitments over the holiday weekend, effectively wrapping up the team's recruiting for this cycle. Fitz also turned the page to 2027 this week with an early preview of the names to know at several offensive positions. Be sure to check out his article on that. We'll discuss some of the important names on the show.

Penn State season preview month continues

Today, we'll ask more questions of our staff to get their big-picture thoughts on the 2025 season. Is it a good thing that Penn State plays three easy non-conference games and then has a bye before Oregon? We'll answer that question in the BWI Mailbag to end the show. We'll also discuss the team's showdown with Ohio State in early November. Is it better to see a team with so much turnover early or later on the schedule?

We'll discuss those topics, and more! If you want to be part of the show, join us and ask your questions or give your takes in the live chat. We'll be interacting with you all show long and taking questions in the BWI Mailbag!

Penn State Football wraps up the majority of its recruiting for 2026 this weekend with the last major string of commitment announcments from top prospects. Today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show, we'll preview the biggest names that will decide their college fate during the holiday weekend, plus recap June. How badly did Penn State get beaten for its top targets compared to other years? Reporter Ryan Snyder will do his best to illustrate how much NIL has eroded the top of the Penn State recruiting pile compared to previous years.

Join BWI Live today at 10 a.m. on YouTube or catch the replay anytime on the YouTube channel, embedded in this article, or anywhere you get your podcasts. Be ready for the next round of commitments by subscribing to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel right now and enabling notifications. That way, you'll be the first to know when a commitment video drops.

The Good news: Penn State's top recruit at Rivals Five-Star Challenge

Penn State offensive lineman Kevin Brown once again shone on the recruiting stage. Last week, Brown was at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge and earned accolades for his performance. Snyder will recap Brown's accomplishments among his peers and discuss what that means for his outlook and future in Happy Valley.

We'll also recap the team's three-man recruiting weekend to end June with Jackson Ford, Jack Fuchs, and kicker Adam McCann-Gibbs on today's show. What has Snyder learned about Ford? He spoke to the defensive end's head coach to learn more about the latest Nittany Lion.

The final wave of commitments coming up this weekend

Penn State still has several top targets on the board who will make their college destinations known this weekend. This will likely be the last big recruiting weekend of the calendar now that the process has moved earlier into May and June. We'll preview the decisions coming from players like Tyson Harley, Marlen Bright, and cornerback Dorian Barney.

The Bad: Penn State June Recap stings

We've chronicled how many prospects Penn State missed on this recruiting cycle over the last two and a half weeks. From Grayson McKeogh to Luke Wafle, most of the team's top targets left after official visits went to different schools.

While it's undoubtedly a loss, how much of a loss is still a fair debate. Today, we'll try to better understand the new gap between what Penn State previously achieved before NIL and now. The team didn't routinely land elite prospects at the most valuable positions, but there's also a clear erosion of their recruiting. Snyder will attempt to pick through the results to give fans a better understanding.
