The Penn State Nittany Lions football team fell to the number-one-ranked Ohio State on Saturday. It's the fifth loss in a row for the Lions, who are now 3-5 and winless in Big Ten play. Interim head coach Terry Smith deployed new ideas on offense and defense after the team's bye week, but it wasn't enough to help the team overcome the highly talented Buckeyes. Penn State drops its fifth straight game

Despite the loss, Penn State went down swinging. In a battle of two teams determined to play methodical football, the Lions matched the Buckeyes in the first half. Despite uneven play to start the game, the offense put together a 15-play 75-yard drive that took up nearly eight minutes of game time in the second quarter before a Nick Singleton touchdown brought the game within three points.

From there, it was a battle of big-play moments where the Penn State defense once again failed to sack the quarterback on third down, and Ohio State passer Julian Sayin scrambled for a first down on third and five. Soon after, he tossed a 45-yard touchdown to Carnell Tate to extend the lead by seven.

Things looked bleak with four minutes left in the first half as Penn State punted on the following drive, giving Ohio State the chance to double-dip before halftime. However, CJ Donaldson fumbled the ball and Chaz Coleman picked it up, returning it to the 13-yard line. Penn State then punched the ball in to score before halftime.

However, Ohio State made adjustments after halftime, and the Buckeyes' offense was just too much for the Penn State defense. The Buckeyes compiled three plays of 50-plus yards on three straight drives to blow the game open and get the runaway win.

The team is losing commits weekly, and the most committed players to the program and the university are starting to look elsewhere as the current head coaching search continues. The Penn State football team opened up practice for its weekly media viewing session on Wednesday evening. We'll start the show with a brief recap of what we saw in the short window of practice.

Next, we'll dive into the latest news with the team's commitments. Which players are slow-playing their visits to other schools? Which ones are already decommitted and looking elsewhere? We'll discuss those updates with recruiting reporters Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz.

NCAA Calendar Change

Next, we'll discuss the latest changes to the NCAA calendar from a recent board of governors meeting. These changes will directly affect Penn State's ability to recruit when the new coach is named, if that happens shortly after the season ends. Snyder will have more on the subject.

The Penn State football team enters its toughest two-game stretch of the season this weekend when it faces top-ranked Ohio State on Saturday at noon. Today, the team opens up practice to the media for its weekly view of what's going on inside the Lasch Football Complex. Today on the BWI Live Show, we'll preview tonight's event, discuss the next wave of players who could see the field for the Nittany Lions, and we'll preview what Ohio State's new offensive and defensive personalities look like on the field.

We'll discuss the aspects of the offense and defense we're looking for this evening.

The team is coming off its second bye week and a much-needed reset after the team's 0-4 skid in conference play. Late last week, reporter Sean Fitz put out his latest coaching hot board for the Penn State search. This time, he presented the candidates as buy, sell, and hold stocks in the race to find the next football leader. We'll discuss the update with him and ask which name in which category surprised him the most. Which candidate do you want the most? Join the chat to give us your thoughts.

Between the Lines

Next, we'll dive into what Smith said during his first comments since the bye week. He spoke to reporters for roughly 20 minutes on Monday afternoon and outlined his thoughts on where the team stands heading into its biggest road test of the season.

Today, we'll discuss his comments about the risk of being seen as a substitute teacher and how he thinks his team can formulate a game plan to play against Ohio State. Of course, Penn State is a 20-plus point underdog on the road this week. Will Smith use that as motivation for his team? He was asked about that, and we'll discuss his answer on the show.

Finally, we'll dissect his comments about the passing game and offensive coordiantor Andy Kotelnicki. Can the team push the ball vertically downfield? Can it do that with this group of receivers? We'll read between the lines of his answers about his offensive coordinator and the passing game from yesterday.

Wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers became the latest 2026 recruit to back out of his commitment to Penn State on Monday, announcing that he’s now committed to Oklahoma.

A 5-foot-10, 175-pound receiver from Appoquinimink in Delaware, Rogers emerged on Penn State’s radar in June 2024 when he participated in a 7-on-7 tournament. Not only can he run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash, but Rogers has also surpassed 11 feet in the broad jump, making him one of the most athletic players in the region, regardless of class.

Once Rogers made it clear on Oct. 13 that he was open to speaking with coaches elsewhere, a flood of news schools started showing interest. He set official visits with Oklahoma, Nebraska and Alabama but ended up switching his commitment to the Sooners following his official visit this past weekend.

Penn State is gearing up for its 2025-2026 regular season. First, though, seven Lions will compete at the U23 World Championships. And two future Nittany Lions just took the mat at the prestigious Super 32 high school tournament last weekend in North Carolina. This week's Blue-White Illustrated wrestling show covers it all with host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel. You can view it in the embedded video player above. This week's episode starts with a Super 32 recap. Standout junior and Class of 2027 Penn State commit Landon Sidun did not compete after winning Who's Number One two weekends ago in Iowa. But, two other future Nittany Lions did take the mat. Class of 2026 commit Sam Herring, who is from Johnstown, Pa., Bishop McCort, beat New York native and Class of 2027 Lions pledge Gavin Mangano in the 138-pound semifinals, 4-2. From there, he lost 1-0 to Minnesota commit Tyler Dekraker in the finals. Mangano, meanwhile, would go on to finish third.

From there, the show moves into a preview of the U23 World Championships. The men's freestyle action is broken up over four days.

What's the timeline for enrollment?

Finally, Snyder will discuss the timeline for how long players can wait around to find out who will be Penn State's next head coach. Snyder will give a rough outline of the recruiting calendar and its intricacies to give fans an understanding of how the program could make changes in December and still get key players to enroll early for the coming year.
