A hard wake-up at Marta’s boarding house turns a fragile morning into a test of rank, oath, and nerve. New arrivals answer the pull of the amulets, but their loyalty does not come without questions.

Cullen barely has time to reach for the Dark Razor before an armed stranger is in the room, demanding answers under the name he used the night before. What follows brings Sharael face to face with Oath Taken who know the old forms differently than she does, and it quickly becomes clear that time has changed more than titles. In the gathering room below, breakfast is laid out, tempers tighten, and Cullen learns that his family name still carries a history sharp enough to draw blood. The call to service has gone out, but agreement is another matter.

A rare night of warmth and laughter in Larose gives Cullen and Sharael a chance to breathe. But under Luna’s light, even an ordinary walk home can turn into something dangerous.

After settling into Marta’s boarding house, Cullen and Sharael share tea, fresh clothes, and a brief escape into the city’s music and dancing. Along the way, Sharael reveals more of the Circle’s design for the world and what has already changed in their long absence. What begins as a simple evening out shifts when the temple of Karakus draws Cullen’s attention, and the night starts pressing at old dreams and stranger truths. Back at Mount Pleasant Road, a late visitor and a lingering sense of pursuit make safety feel temporary.

The Dark Razor is back in Cullen’s hand, but relief does not last long in Larose. A quiet room, a locked door, and one ordinary evening suddenly matter when every choice now has weight.

After the warehouse confrontation, Sharael is left to reckon with Terrance’s impossible guilt while Cullen turns to the practical problem of keeping all three of them alive. Their search leads them into a quieter district of the city and to a boarding house that feels almost too safe to trust. Over tea, hot baths, and careful questions, the shape of this altered world grows stranger. With the Razor hidden, rooms secured, and the night still ahead of them, Cullen and Sharael try to claim a little breathing space before the next complication arrives.
