About this listen

Sean and Joey love sports, but they realize there are a lot of dumb elements within our favorite games. And each week, they'll break down one of those dumb things in this tidy, bite-sized podcast. Drop by to hear Sean lament over the stupidity of a certain aspect in sports—basketball, football, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, volleyball, lacrosse—nothing is off-limits. If there's something dumb to talk about, you better believe we'll hit it. We're also covering some pointless tweets, overused sports cliches, and general news that...well, doesn't need to be news. And we love to hear from you! Give Sean or Joey (or both) a shout with your favorite dumb things.

  • A Lack of Cool Batting Stances is Lamely Dumb
    Jul 15 2025

When Sean and Joey were kids, there seemed to be no shortage of funky batting stances. Tony Batista. Jeff Bagwell. Craig Counsell. Chuck Knoblauch. Kevin Youkilis. Those seem to largely be a relic of the past. Are we just getting older? Do we simply not care as much? Am I so out of touch? Probably yes to all three. Shout out to Sports R Dumb listener Chris for the topic suggestion!

Sean also tries to accurately predict World Series participants from the past decade or so, with only modest success. Sounds about right.

  • Way Too Early Lists R Prematurely Dumb
    Jul 8 2025

Right after a season ends, shows, writers, and fans will start creating their "way too early" lists for the next year. This is often before any transfers, drafts, or free agency periods take place. So, you know, no team is going to look like it does now. How silly!

Plus, we dissect what we'd do with the Stanley Cup if we won an NHL title and got to parade the cup around town. The creativity is quite impressive, if we do say so ourselves.

P.S. Reviews help keep the show's momentum going. Wherever you're listening to this podcast, take a moment to leave a review. We are the most appreciative. Happy listening!

  • Kerfuffles About WNBA Scuffles R Snuffily Dumb
    Jul 1 2025

There have been a lot of fights in the WNBA lately. Caitlin Clark is involved in a handful of them, largely because the entire league seems to dislike her. Yet some of the reactions and coverage of these fights is very holier than thou.

Plus, Joey had the most active vacation one could possibly indulge in, with kayaking, golfing, surfing, and yoga on the beach in Port Aransas. And then he went to Chicago and watched the White Sox win a 1-0 game with nary a single giveaway. But he did get to see a play at the plate and a catcher throw a runner out at third after a strikeout, so that’s something.

Also, apologies for the audio on this one. Joey accidentally recorded on his computer mic instead of his high-quality mic. WHOOPS. Good to know we still make mistakes even after multiple years of doing this podcast.

Finally, here's Fergie’s rendition of the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star Game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMA2iF6RuXk
