• Just Us: The brilliance of Lily Allen, Nelly Furtado’s retirement and Al’s melancholy playlist
    Oct 30 2025

We’ve had a busy week being completely and utterly obsessed with Lily Allen’s new album - West End Girl - and we mean TRULY OBSESSED.

We unpack Lily’s radical honesty on the album which narrates the breakdown of her marriage. We dive into her cultural trailblazer status - and just how brave she is to put her relationship under the microscope...

Our pop-culture chat continues - as we discuss Nelly Furtado’s retirement from music and the way people have tied her decision to leave music to recent body-shaming headlines. Is it taking the narrative away from her? And why is the music industry so toxic for “older” women?

  • It's not just about dads - paternity leave is political
    Oct 27 2025

The UK has the worst paternity leave offering in Europe and the wider implication of this affects everyone, whether you have kids or not.

Today we spoke to Alex Lloyd-Hunter from The Dad Shift and Rebecca Horne from Pregnant Then Screwed about their joint campaign ‘UK Paternity Leave is a Mother F**KER’

We spoke about how the UK’s paternity leave offering is disastrous for mums, dads and kids - but also the devastating wider cultural impact it has on the gender pay gap, discrimination and the workforce.

We have a window of political opportunity now as the government is undertaking a review of parental leave. Get engaged with The Dad Shift and Pregnant Then Screwed to see how you can help make a change.

The government have also opened a new consultation called 'Make Work Pay' looking at building enhanced dismissal protections for pregnant women and new mothers. Pregnant Then Screwed will be sharing information on how to engage on their pages in the coming weeks.

  • Just Us: Our intense friendship, momentary spirals and why we’ll get arrested…
    Oct 22 2025

Another day, another day not being mysterious…

On today’s Just Us - Em’s found a silly online quiz for us to play. We discuss how academic success is not a indicator of intelligence, and we find out that Al has an affinity with a certain ubiquitous bird…

Btw - if you’re like Al and are counting down til Christmas - you’ll be thrilled to know we recorded this LAST week and it’s actually only nine Fridays til Christmas. If you’re like Em… sorry for the existential crisis.

  • Are you really ‘fine’? Estelle Bingham on healing your inner child
    Oct 19 2025

How are you… really? Do you say ‘I’m fine’ - when you’re not?

This week we’re joined by holistic therapist and fourth-generation psychic, Estelle Bingham, who believes that ‘fine’ might just be a cover story. From the very beginning, we went deep… talking about trusting the universe, finding more joy in the everyday, and what it means to reconnect with your inner child.

This conversation surprised us. It got emotional, it went to places we didn’t expect, and there was even a bit of a role reversal between Em and Al… Estelle opened up something in us, and we have a feeling she might do the same for you.

  • Just Us: Taylor Swift, Victoria Beckham and the suffering of being a woman
    Oct 15 2025

In the time since we last recorded a Just Us - Taylor Swift has released a new album. So today, our resident semi-swiftie (Em) guides our non-swiftie (Al) through The Life of a Showgirl and we discuss the noise and critique surrounding the album.

Victoria Beckham has also released a Netflix documentary - we discuss the term ‘too posh to push’ which was popularised in 1999 when she gave birth to her son Brooklyn by c-section. Why do women equate parenthood with suffering - and do men feel the same?

  • Comedy, autism, and the power of being different... with George Lewis
    Oct 12 2025

You might know George Lewis for his hilarious parenting sketches - the chaos, the tantrums, and our collective Bluey obsession... but lately he has been opening up about something much more personal.

George has three children - his eldest has an autism diagnosis, and his younger two are currently being assessed. We spoke about how his view of autism has completely changed, the exhausting fight parents face for diagnosis, and the damage caused by Donald Trump’s baseless claims about paracetamol and autism.

  • Just Us: Unsolicited parenting opinions, frightening US politics and cautionary hooliganism
    Oct 8 2025

Today we find out that Em’s cycling era might be over… we know you’re all as hooked on this new passion as Alex! We get a small insight into Alex’s clubbing days and we also discuss the internet’s entitlement to give unsolicited parenting advice.

We also discuss Donald Trump’s comments about autism and pregnancy, why Em is feeling slightly more hopeful about our political landscape here in the UK, and why some echo chambers are worth cultivating.

  • “I brace myself for sexism, misogyny and racism” - Eni Aluko on being a female football pundit
    Oct 5 2025

We have a Lioness in the studio!

Today - we’re joined by Eni Aluko. Eni is a broadcaster, football executive and former professional football player who has represented England on the world stage and at the Olympics. She’s also a qualified lawyer - there’s nothing this woman can’t do.

Since retiring from professional football - she has become one of the country’s most recognisable football pundits. As a former international player, with a lifelong passion for football - Eni is more qualified than anyone for this role - however, the culture of racism and sexism around football has made it an toxic environment for her.

We spoke to Eni about the reality of misogyny, racism in football, how she has dealt with the online abuse she is subjected to and how we can move forward to make football a better (or at least more tolerable environment for women)
