Other medics take over and soon after a colleague informs her that the war is over, and Claire is seen with a bottle of champagne celebrating with a crowd. MARC- The scene transitions to Claire and her husband, Frank Randall, on a second honeymoon in the Scottish Highlands, a trip meant to help them reconnect after five years of war. It’s near Samhain (SOW-un)—Halloween—and they encounter homes marked with blood, which Mrs. Baird, their hostess, explains is a sacrifice to Saint Odhran. MIKEY- Claire discusses her interest in botany while Frank, a historian, delves into local folklore and genealogy, particularly focusing on his ancestor, Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall. While at a vicar's house pursuing Frank’s interests, they meet Mrs. Graham, the housekeeper, who reads her tea leaves and palm, hinting at two marriages and an interrupted lifeline. MARC- Later, Frank sees a mysterious figure outside their window who appears to be staring at Claire, leading to a discussion about their past and a reaffirmation of their love. The couple then travels to the standing stones at Craigh Na Dun (CRAYK-na-DOON), where they observe a group of women performing a ritual dance at dawn. MIKEY- A few days later, Claire returns alone to the stones to collect a plant specimen. She hears a loud buzzing sound and, upon touching one of the stones, is transported through time. She awakens in the same location but in 1743. She hears a gunshot and sees a skirmish between British Redcoats and a group of Highlanders. MARC- Claire is nearly sexually assaulted by Captain Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall—Frank’s ancestor—who looks identical to her husband. A Highlander, Murtagh, rescues her and takes her to a group of Scotsmen. MIKEY- Claire uses her medical knowledge to set the dislocated shoulder of a young man named Jamie Fraser, earning their trust. She tries to convince them that she is English, but they are suspicious of her. When they continue their journey on horseback, Claire identifies a location that Frank had told her about and warns the group of a Redcoat ambush. MARC- In the ensuing fight, Jamie is shot. Claire once again uses her skills to tend to his wound. The episode concludes with Claire and the Highlanders arriving at Castle Leoch, where she is presented to the clan chief, Colum MacKenzie.
