• Pining for Pixels # 137 - 20th Anniversary of the Xbox 360
    Dec 16 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

I can't believe it has already been 20 years since the Xbox 360 came out. This was Microsoft's most successful platform to date. It is the platform many fans wish Microsoft would go back to when it comes to guiding their approach to the gaming industry going forward. This platform marked the beginning of a lot of changes to the status quo in the gaming industry, both for good and for bad. Developers could now patch their games more regularly on console, DLC and expansion content expanded the life of games, but also added extra costs to the consumer as well. On top of all of this, some great games were introduced during this generation, and thanks to the focus on Xbox Live Arcade, and the famous "Summer of Arcade" during the 360 era, lots of indie games got a well deserved spotlight and were launched into major success! Tune in to hear what games really marked this platform as a serious contender and gave Sony a run for it's money.

  • Saving Throes # 136 - Video Game Crossovers
    Dec 11 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

If your home game is anything like mine, at this time of year, with Christmas rapidly approaching, your groups availability for gaming starts to become more and more unpredictable. What happens if your group cancels with little notice, but you really have that itch to game? I have explored that very question on an earlier episode of Saving Throes, but this week I wanted to revisit it again. This time I am focussing entirely on the video games that can kinda fill that gap, albeit temporarily. There are so many video games out there that aim to emulate the tabletop experience, and not just D&D. They might be able to help you if you are feeling stranded. Tune in to hear what surprising non-D&D video games actually exist, and see if they might be of use to you.

  • Pining for Pixels # 136 - Special: The Game Awards 2025 Predictions
    Dec 9 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

It's that time of year again, Geoff Keighley's Game Awards are just around the corner, happening later this week. I like to do an episode of predictions on who the big winners will be and also to put my 2 cents in to state whom I'd like to se win, based entirely on the list that the TGA crew has prepared for the show. To be clear, these awards and my predictions do not have any weight or impact on the games I will be recognizing later on in January for the Red Rooster Game awards, they are just my opinion on what is being shown at the TGAs. Tune in to hear my predictions and then next week I will see how accurate my insights were (or were not)!

  • Saving Throes # 135 - Crowing From the Perch: What if I Owned D&D?
    Dec 4 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

I've seen a number of D&D You Tube content creators doing videos asking the question "What if I owned D&D". At first I dismissed this as a passing fad, but then I thought more and more about it. I then saw more content creators doing their version of the question and by this time, I had a bunch of ideas jotted down as to what I would do, and now I decided that this week I would throw my hat into the ring and talk about what I would do if I owned D&D - not if I worked for Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro, but if I owned the D&D brand outright, unattached to any corporate interest. Tune in to hear what my master plan be, or at least what I would hope I could accomplish!

  • Pining for Pixels # 135 - Evercade Expeditions: Neo Geo Arcade 1
    Dec 2 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

This week I am going over one of the newer and certainly more exciting releases for the Evercade. When Blaze announced the first Neo Geo collection, it definitely got a lot of people's attention. As a result, when this first collection came out, it was almost immediately sold out everywhere and difficult to track down. Thankfully I was able to secure mine, and complete this episode. This is a great start to the Neo Geo collections and a great way for anyone without any experience with their library to get a good taste. Not every title is a bonafide classic, but a few of them truly are. Tune in to hear which titles got me most excited to revisit and which ones just got the passing grade.

  • Saving Throes # 134 - Pages Through the Ages: Making a Character - AD&D 2e
    Nov 27 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

I felt pretty inspired to do this episode as my home game is currently going through an AD&D 2e campaign (Vecna Lives!). This is also the edition that I was introduced to D&D with - the original release of the 2e PHB, with that gorgeous Jeff Easley artwork. It set my childhood imagination on fire! It was a lot of fun coming back with the mindset of how a new person might approach the game and how they might look at this. I always apply the rule of not using any aids in creating a character other than what would have been available to someone at the time of its release - so in this case, no using the internet! This one really brought me back, but also made me realize how much clearer the character creation process was in this edition compared to the prior editions. Tune in to find out what character I made in AD&D 2e.

  • Pining for Pixels # 134 - 25th Anniversary of the PlayStation 2
    Nov 25 2025

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

Better late than never! Although the 25th anniversary of the PS2 came and went at the end of October this year, I wanted to make sure that I dedicated an episode talking about this monumental platform and how it transformed the industry. This console is the reason that video games have become the dominant form of entertainment in the mainstream. It started the trend of your video game console being an all in one multimedia player, since the PS2 doubled as a DVD player. Some legendary franchises got their start on the PlayStation 2 platform and the industry saw the rise of many prominent developers today like Naughty Dog and Insomniac. This was a focal point in the history of the video game industry, and its impact is still felt today. Tune in to hear about my abnormal experiences with the PS2 at launch, and later why it became one of my favourite generations.

  • Saving Throes # 133 - The Lost D&D Rules, Vol 2
    Nov 20 2025

Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.

I recently came across an article online that was quite critical about some of the older and forgotten rules from D&D's history. This drew my attention and after reading through it, I was inspired to revisit the topic of reviewing lost rules of D&D. This week I am going over that article's list of 10 rules from prior editions that the author states, he is happy are gone. While some of them I can understand, many of them I do not agree with at all! Tune in to hear which ones I would love to maintain in the modern day, which rules concepts the article gets wrong overall, and lastly, what one rule I had completely forgotten about, but has now inspired me to bring it back into my own home game immediately!
