About this listen
A Bodhisattva is “a sentient being with the mind for the truth.” There are two aspects to the term “enlightenment and sentience.” First, it speaks of the commitment and dedication to seek enlightenment, in other words, one’s own efforts in the attainment of ultimate wisdom. Thus, we also describe a bodhisattva as one who seeks the path. Second, the term “enlightenment and sentience” speaks of the devotion to bringing enlightenment to all sentient beings, in other words, efforts for the benefit of all. This is the manifestation of great kindness and compassion, and it explains why we also describe a bodhisattva as one who liberates sentient beings.
