About this listen
Join musicologist and author John Einarson as he digs deep into the folk music boom which began in 1958 with The Kingston Trio's pop hit "Tom Dooley". John plays many of the songs that became pop music hits in the wake of that groundbreaking record including songs by The New Christy Minstrels, Serendipity Singers, Rooftop Singers, The Travellers, Bob Gibson, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem, The Journeymen with John Phillips and Scott McKenzie, Au Go Go Singers featuring Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, and a traditional Maritime song from Ian & Sylvia. Singing along is encouraged. Cable-knit sweaters are optional.
