About this listen

Welcome to Not for Educational Purposes, a How Did We Get Here Productions production. Join hosts Nova (they/them) and Kai (she/her) as they take subjects they often know nothing about and attempt to learn more about about them using the internet while they careen off-topic and see how far away from the original subject they can get. There will occasionally be some triggering topics, such as sex, drugs, death, blood, and other unsavoury things, so if any of those things make you squeamish, or if you're under the age of 18, please listen at your own discretion.

  • Not For Educational Purposes: It's All In Your Head (Episode 48)
    Sep 12 2025

Welcome to Not For Educational Purposes, a How Did We Get Here Productions production, a podcast where two friends look stuff up on the internet and may or may not learn things. On this episode of Not For Educational Purposes we get really psychological and ask the important questions like: What makes us have the need to bop to a beat? Why must we move and groove to the tunes? And why might you be happier if you dance? We also may do a lot of yapping in this episode. Some might say too much, and they wouldn't be wrong, but they would be mean. We yap about what kind of stimuli we need to get things done, a few reasons why mass production is awful, and how our imagination and creativity works. Are we just crazy? Some might say yes!! And that's okay.

  • Not For Educational Purposes: F*ck Christopher Columbus (and not in the fun way!) (Episode 47)
    Aug 20 2025

Welcome to Not For Educational Purposes, a How Did We Get Here Productions production, a podcast where two friends look stuff up on the internet and may or may not learn things. Welcome to the party pooper of episodes as we take the fun out of every question we ask, like, "Why are cigarettes considered gross while cigars are classy," "What is in a cigarette," "Is tobacco a vegetable," and, "Why is Christopher Columbus and white history just full of made up BS?" Nova learns something about Canada's alcohol laws and Nerd learns about the US's even wilder alcohol laws. On this episode we really discover that the rules are made up and the points don't matter. So have fun! We hope you don't need a cigarette by the end.

  • Not For Educational Purposes: Deep Down Dark Deep Down (Episode 46)
    Aug 6 2025

Welcome to Not For Educational Purposes, a How Did We Get Here Productions production, a podcast where two friends look stuff up on the internet and may or may not learn things. (!!!SPECIAL TRIGGER WARNING!!! We talk quite a bit about OCD thought patterns and potential triggers in this episode. This could be triggering for other people with OCD or OCD thought patterns.) On this episode of Not For Educational Purposes, we ask questions that we have probably asked before but forgot about. Like what is the difference between mental illness and neurodivergence? Is it semantics? Probably. Why do some people wear tinfoil hats? Is it because of aliens or because of something much more scary, like the government? Do we die from oxygen? And, on top of all of that, we learn more about sharks! So strap in as this is quite a wild episode for our hosts, one of them has had to much caffeine, and trying to understand things as undiagnosed mentally ill humans is hard.

Love the endless giggles, and I've learnt so many random things from listening. May not be for educational purposes, but there's plenty of learning to be had!
