What does real conversion actually look like? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the story of the prodigal son and the call to return not just outwardly, but with the heart. As Lent invites us to prayer, fasting, and penance, he reminds us that God is not interested in cosmetic change or external gestures, but in a radical reorientation of our deepest desires. Drawing on the words of the prophet Joel and the witness of St Augustine, this reflection asks a simple but searching question: where is your heart pointed? A gentle invitation to turn back to the Father, and allow your restless heart to find its rest in Him.

Why does Lent feel so heavy? In this meditation, Fr Gavan reflects on the fear many of us feel when we approach fasting, sacrifice, and self-denial — and the deeper question behind it all: why would God want us to suffer? Drawing on the message of Our Lady of Lourdes and the call to “penance, penance, penance,” he explains how sacrifice becomes a kind of prayer made not only with words, but with the body.
