  • Off The Back Seat: Fan Edition – Matt Gibb
    Aug 19 2026

In this episode of Off the Back Seat: Fan Edition, Manaia Stewart and Ben Hurley pick up Matt Gibb in the back of a brand-new GWM Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid!

Matt Gibb once went on Celebrity Treasure Island and found himself living alongside former Warriors captain Steve Price. For a lifelong Wahs fan, that's the dream, and Gibb made it count, peppering the camp's unofficial "dad" with late-night questions about his career. The best of them: Price, an Australian selected to tour England with a New Zealand side, had to learn the haka on the flight over, rehearsing it in an economy seat, before performing it in front of the Queen. Gibb has not recovered.

The former TVNZ Breakfast host and Country House Hunters star brings a few more beauties: the weekends that live or die on the Warriors result, his career as a highly vocal armchair coach who openly admits he knows next to nothing about the tactics, and the time he dressed as The Ultimate Warrior for a TV gag, rocked up to a press day at Warriors HQ, and got the cold shoulder from players and management alike.

Equal parts nostalgia, comedy, and full-blown Warriors obsession.

  • Off The Back Seat: Fan Edition – Clint Roberts
    Aug 5 2026

In this episode of Off the Back Seat: Fan Edition, Manaia Stewart and Ben Hurley pick up Clint Roberts in the back of a brand-new GWM Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid!

If you've ever blamed a Warriors loss on your socks, or refused to go to a game because you were convinced you'd jinx them, Clint Roberts is your guy. The ZM Drive host is a Wahs tragic of the highest order, and it started on day one — watching the 1995 inaugural match and realising what it meant when the tough, league-mad adult next to him was moved to tears.

The boys get the full spectrum: the heartbreak, the irrational optimism, the superstitions, and why Shaun Johnson's fairytale return remains one of the most satisfying stories in New Zealand sport. Plus the state of Mount Smart's famous scaffolding, the strange social order of high-school sprinting, and the sacred status of Stacey Jones at a suburban bowling club.

And underneath the laughs, a real question: the old jokes about blind faith and perpetual disappointment don't quite land anymore. Are Warriors fans finally allowed to believe?

Plus, discuss the Warriors and Bulldogs tribute to Marcelo Montoya.

  • Off The Back Seat: Fan Edition – Peter Urlich
    Jul 22 2026

In this episode of Off the Back Seat: Fan Edition, Manaia Stewart and Ben Hurley pick up Peter Urlich in the back of a brand-new GWM Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid!

Thousands of people sing it after every home win. Peter Urlich wrote it in about half an hour. When former Warriors CEO Mick Watson told him the club needed its own victory chant, Urlich went home, sat down, knocked out the lyrics and presented them the next day. Watson's verdict: "That's it."

What started as a song for the sheds escaped into the stands and became one of the most recognisable traditions in New Zealand sport. Urlich still gets goosebumps hearing it. But he was there long before that, so desperate to attend the Warriors' inaugural match that he skipped an important dinner party with his then-partner, at some cost to the relationship ledger.

The boys get the lot: the 2011 grand final, the lean years when Mount Smart crowds were counted in thousands rather than tens of thousands, and why supporting this club has never been about trophies. It's about a community that runs from Kaitaia to Bluff.

Then, the fellas debate the Warriors All Time XIII that has been named in the ACC Facebook Group The Caravan (26:10)...
