Psalm 84 New Living Translation For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah, to be accompanied by a stringed instrument. 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies.2 I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her youngat a place near your altar, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!4 What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. Interlude 5 What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.6 When they walk through the Valley of Weeping,[b] it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.7 They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem. 8 O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, hear my prayer. Listen, O God of Jacob. Interlude 9 O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield! Show favor to the one you have anointed. 10 A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else!I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked.11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.12 O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you. . 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28 MSG

The Way He Wants You to Live

12-13 And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love!

13-15 Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on. Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.

16-18 Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

19-22 Don’t suppress the Spirit, and don’t stifle those who have a word from the Master. On the other hand, don’t be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what’s good. Throw out anything tainted with evil.

23-24 May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!

25-27 Friends, keep up your prayers for us. Greet all the followers of Jesus there with a holy embrace. And make sure this letter gets read to all the brothers and sisters. Don’t leave anyone out.

28 The amazing grace of Jesus Christ be with you!

    .

    Breath Prayer from today's passage:

(Taking slow breath in and releasing slow breath out.)

Breathe in and say: "Make me whole and Holy"

Breathe out: "spirit, soul and body."

    Apr 29 2024

Welcome to the Linger podcast. Today we will be reading from Lamentations 3:19-33 The Message Paraphrase.

We are going to be lingering in the presence of God. He invites us to sit with Him, to be still, to cease striving and know that He is God. To linger means to abide, to remain, to stay for a length of time, to become affected by the presence of where we are staying.

    .

    Lamentations 3:19-33 The Message Paraphrase

It’s a Good Thing to Hope for Help from God

19-21 I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness,
the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed.
I remember it all—oh, how well I remember—
the feeling of hitting the bottom.
But there’s one other thing I remember,
and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:

22-24 God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out,
his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.
    They’re created new every morning.
    How great your faithfulness!
I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over).
    He’s all I’ve got left.

25-27 God proves to be good to the man who passionately waits,
to the woman who diligently seeks.
It’s a good thing to quietly hope,
quietly hope for help from God.
    It’s a good thing when you’re young
to stick it out through the hard times.

28-30 When life is heavy and hard to take,
go off by yourself. Enter the silence.
Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions:
    Wait for hope to appear.
Don’t run from trouble. Take it full-face.
The “worst” is never the worst.

31-33 Why? Because the Master won’t ever
walk out and fail to return.
If he works severely, he also works tenderly.
His stockpiles of loyal love are immense.

    .

    Referenced in today's Linger:

    • Romans 15:13 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

    .

Breathe in and say: "My Hope"

    Breathe out: "is in God."

  • 25. Linger in 1 John 3:16-24 "When We Practice Real Love"
    Apr 22 2024

Welcome to the Linger podcast. Today we will be reading from 1 John 3:16-24 The Message Paraphrase

We are going to be lingering in the presence of God. He invites us to sit with Him, to be still, to cease striving and know that He is God. To linger means to abide, to remain, to stay for a length of time, to become affected by the presence of where we are staying.

We will linger in scripture, in prayer, in breathing in and out the Word of God as we listen to Him, as we wait and listen for Holy Spirit to speak to us, and then pray what He is leading us to pray.

    .

    1 John 3:16-24 MSG

16-17 This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God’s love? It disappears. And you made it disappear.

18-20 My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love. This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves.

21-24 And friends, once that’s taken care of and we’re no longer accusing or condemning ourselves, we’re bold and free before God! We’re able to stretch our hands out and receive what we asked for because we’re doing what he said, doing what pleases him. Again, this is God’s command: to believe in his personally named Son, Jesus Christ. He told us to love each other, in line with the original command. As we keep his commands, we live deeply and surely in him, and he lives in us. And this is how we experience his deep and abiding presence in us: by the Spirit he gave us.

    .

    Breath Prayer from today's passage:

(Taking slow breath in and releasing slow breath out.)

Breathe in and say: "For God is greater,"

Breathe out: "than my worried heart."

    (repeat)

Psalm 27 NLT Psalm 27 A psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?2 When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.3 Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid.Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. 4 The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.5 For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.6 Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me.At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the Lord with music. 7 Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me!8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”9 Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper.Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation!10 Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close. 11 Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.12 Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence.13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. 14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. . Referenced in this Linger: John 10:27 "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” . Apr 8 2024

Welcome to the Linger podcast. Today we will be reading from Luke 8:4-15 The Message

We are going to be lingering in the presence of God. He invites us to sit with Him, to be still, to cease striving and know that He is God. To linger means to abide, to remain, to stay for a length of time, to become affected by the presence of where we are staying.

We will linger in scripture, in prayer, in breathing in and out the Word of God as we listen to Him, as we wait and listen for Holy Spirit to speak to us, and then pray what He is leading us to pray.

    .

    Luke 8:4-15 The Message

    The Story of the Seeds

4-8 As they went from town to town, a lot of people joined in and traveled along. He addressed them, using this story: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. Some of it fell on the road; it was tramped down and the birds ate it. Other seed fell in the gravel; it sprouted, but withered because it didn’t have good roots. Other seed fell in the weeds; the weeds grew with it and strangled it. Other seed fell in rich earth and produced a bumper crop.

“Are you listening to this? Really listening?”

9 His disciples asked, “Why did you tell this story?”

10 He said, “You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom—you know how it works. There are others who need stories. But even with stories some of them aren’t going to get it:

Their eyes are open but don’t see a thing,
Their ears are open but don’t hear a thing.

11-12 “This story is about some of those people. The seed is the Word of God. The seeds on the road are those who hear the Word, but no sooner do they hear it than the Devil snatches it from them so they won’t believe and be saved.

13 “The seeds in the gravel are those who hear with enthusiasm, but the enthusiasm doesn’t go very deep. It’s only another fad, and the moment there’s trouble it’s gone.

14 “And the seed that fell in the weeds—well, these are the ones who hear, but then the seed is crowded out and nothing comes of it as they go about their lives worrying about tomorrow, making money, and having fun.

15 “But the seed in the good earth—these are the good-hearts who seize the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there’s a harvest.

    Apr 1 2024

Welcome to the Linger podcast. Today we will be reading from Ephesians 1:3-14 The Message Paraphrase

We are going to be lingering in the presence of God. He invites us to sit with Him, to be still, to cease striving and know that He is God. To linger means to abide, to remain, to stay for a length of time, to become affected by the presence of where we are staying.

We will linger in scripture, in prayer, in breathing in and out the Word of God as we listen to Him, as we wait and listen for Holy Spirit to speak to us, and then pray what He is leading us to pray.

    .

    Ephesians 1:3-14 MSG

3-6 How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.

7-10 Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.

11-12 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.

13-14 It’s in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This down payment from God is the first installment on what’s coming, a reminder that we’ll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life.
