• The Science of Spirituality with Lisa Miller
    May 15 2024

Here is a reupload from 2020 event on spirituality, it is a fascinating conversation and so worth a revisit. The Science of Spirituality is a talk with Dr Lisa Miller. Is spirituality good for us, and are there benefits to be found from a spiritual practice? We often talk about intuition on the podcast, and many people in business and life will talk about having a gut feeling or being guided to an outcome.

These conversations inspired my wife and me to host on the subject at the end of 2020, one of three we did that year. Spirit-duality was an exploration of religion and spirituality in life and business. Dr Lisa Miller is a scientist who specialises in spirituality and phycology.

I thought to share it with you today, partly because the conversation is insightful. Dr Miller is the author of 3 books and numerous peer-reviewed papers on spirituality and health. She is highly respected, having advised governments, investment banks and even the military looking at how a connected view of the world has physical and mental health benefits.

I hope you enjoy the Science of Spirituality talk; it is one of many that can be found in the spirituality event.

  • Understanding and Managing Your Lens of Perspective
    May 12 2024

This episode explores our 'lens of perspective' and its powerful role in framing our life experiences. Our worldview is derived entirely from the stories we narrate to ourselves. That is how we unconsciously guide our perceptions and experiences. In this short conversation, we explore the importance of consciously monitoring our narratives to ensure they align with a positive, empowering outlook on the world.

In this discussion. I share a few personal anecdotes and scenarios, demonstrating how perspective can drastically alter the interpretation of an event. We highlight the idea that our perspective is often influenced by past experiences. Our brains are not picky and happy to interpret our present reality by drawing on references from the past or other untrusted sources. This leads to the realization that we often view the world through a lens of past experiences, unknowingly to us.

There are solutions. Like incorporating mindfulness into our lives by observing our feelings from a detached viewpoint, preventing us from spiralling into negative emotions.

    The Upwards Spiral

Using the spiral process, it is possible to manage and maintain an upward direction in mood by using meditation, regular exercise, and journaling. The fact is that life has its ups and downs, and there will be inevitable lows. It is at these times that managing our mood and expectations will keep up from becoming overwhelmed.

The episode is an essential exploration of a significant facet of our psychology and a practical guide on managing one's perspectives to lead a balanced, fulfilling life. The lens of perspective is a big subject, and if you would like support unpicking yours, do reach out.

  • Graham Brown : Creating Your Story
    May 8 2024

This show was last released in March 2022. At the time, it was called 3 Plane Tickets and No Plans. Listening to it again, it is very much about building a life out of the narrative that we want to live. The point is to remember that we will create that narrative consciously or unconsciously, which is why it is so important to become the driver and not the passenger. If you want help with that check out the link here Back to Graham and those plane tickets. Some of us dream about dropping everything and taking off, but what happens when you do, and more to the point, what makes an entrepreneur with a growing business cash it all in, get on a plane with his family and become a nomad? Our show is about the call to adventure. Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to see life for what it is, “fragile”. We assume it will continue forever, and the story will play out well. In reality, we cannot make those assumptions; all we can do is live our best life by taking control of the story.

Graham Brown was a star in the telecoms industry and a leader in data research and trends. But his father's death made him ask the important questions and give it all up for three plane tickets and no plans. As you will hear, life in paradise is not all Instagram moments.

Graham is a gentle soul that has learnt much on his travels, above all, it was the importance of finding your story. Today Graham has produced over 1500 podcasts, written 4 books, speaks live on podcasts and helps major brands define and tell their story. Let's join the conversation with Graham Brown.

  • The Red Mist of Anger
    May 5 2024

We have all felt the red mist of anger descend at some point, a moment when all reason gets lost, and silly things happen. Society has a difficult relationship with the expression of anger. At its best it is a powerful fuel for change, motivated action. The world is still full of anger, and aggressive actions are taken in anger that really lead to good outcomes. When will we learn to deal with the expression of our power? The show explores why we experience anger and how it can potentially shape our perspectives and actions in life. Ther are many examples where it is a force for good.

The root of anger is the unmet need or perception of transgression. It is about filters and values that originate from societal or cultural factors. The transgression of these views and values can trigger outrage and a sense of injustice, leading to its expression in acts of violence. Conversely, societal or cultural factors can just as easily influence how we perceive or suppress anger, which is just as unhealthy as violent expression.

Avoiding The Red Mist of Anger

The safe expression of our anger and frustration is the action of a healthy, well-adjusted person. Because there is a price for unexpressed emotion and anecdotal evidence for the damaging impact of pent-up anger on our health and relationships. That is why it is important to deal with frustration early on before it escalates to a full-scale rage. The row that ensures follows the burning of a piece to toast has nothing to do with the toast. Full disclosure: I am not an anger specialist and would always refer someone with issues of this kind for professional support. But we can all benefit from being clear about what makes us angry and finding safe ways to express it. As with anything good, if you have enjoyed it, please share it with a friend. That's how people find good podcasts.

  • Jeff Hardy : To Care for Peace
    May 1 2024

Our guest on the show was 19 when he enlisted in the US Coast Guard reserve as a hospital corpsman trainee. He was sent to Government Island in San Francisco Bay to help and care for the troops returning from Vietnam and the Mekon Delta. It was a life-changing event for this young man. He discovered how caring and peace are fundamentally connected. It set a career in the caring profession, not as a nurse or doctor but as a planner. He went on to become a planning and design consultant. He facilitated innovative management operations and new facility development for more than 120 hospitals all over the USA. His skill set was in demand outside the US, and he and his wife travelled the world advising hospitals and care facilities. His work was about creating environments for optimal patient and staff care.

. Over his 40-year career, he has set up facilities all over the world, working in Vietnam, Nigeria, Kenya, and many others. He was particularly proud of his work in Myanmar, where they created a system to serve remote communities.

Jeff is now retired from the business he created and spends time writing and speaking on podcast stages. He believed that humanity needs a second evolution that leads to deep peace, which can only be found through caring. We cover my usual question, but our conversation concerns the human bond of caring and community. It was about how society must learn from the past and stop repeating our history.

Jeff encapsulated his thoughts on caring and peace in his first book. To care for peace - a global mandate to secure the second human evolution in perpetuity—THE PROCESS IS THE SOLUTION, In his opinion, it is a process. Check out the book on amazon and the website at www.CareforPeace.org

  • Jonathon Nazario and his Book Society
    Apr 24 2024

A flashback to January 2021 with Jonathan Nazario: I was looking for a show to reshare with you today, and I wondered what happened to Jonathan, given we are three years on. At the time of recording, Jonathon was 17. The book is still available on Amazon, but his social chnnels look dormant. I have reached out, and I will see what transpires. If you are interested in Focus coaching the link is here, and at the bottom.

______________________________________________________ This podcast brings a different perspective to my usual conversations because, unlike most of my guests, Jonathon Nazario is just 17 years old, which, from my (57-year-old) perspective, is the very beginning of life’s experiences.

His book is called Society, The World In Which We Live and is a self-help philosophical mix that is his take on the world, highlighting human behaviour, education, and the business world.

When this young author approached me through one of the podcast matching sites. I have to admit, my old cynic reared its head and said

“What can a 17-year-old possibly know about Life, Passion and Business?”

Intrigued to know more, I followed through with an introductory chat that turned into a refreshing conversation and an invitation to come on the podcast.

In this programme, we discuss his personal view of success, contribution, and the meaning of life. Jonathon has big plans for the future and a vision that includes exceeding his personal expectations.

Despite being an old cynic, it is refreshing to hear the perspective of one so young. With his positive mindset, Jonathon will likely fulfil his vision, and I hope I have the opportunity to catch up with him again in 10 years to see how things are going.

If you want to catch up with Jonathon Nazario, you can find his book on Amazon.com. Given that we are three years old, the social links seem to be dormant.
