  • [Rebroadcast] The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Book Discussion
    Sep 20 2025

    Hello all,

I have some bad news for all of our loyal fans. This month, Alex and I were unable to get a new episode recorded for the bonus material. Not wanting to leave it as a blank, I decided to rebroadcast our most popular episode by far. Part-Time Indian has over 100 downloads. So, obviously we did something right here. For all those fans that have not yet had a chance to listen to this, please enjoy.

Also, an important milestone was reached. Our show has passed the 2,000 downloads overall! Super excited about that. So all of you loyal fans, thank you. I hope that you still enjoy this episode and are willing to help our numbers out by downloading this again, commenting on this episode or another favorite of yours, or sharing with your friends.

We will be back to our normal broadcasting schedule next month with a Joe pick. We will be discussing The Wanting Seed by Anthony Burgess. That will be out on the 5th of October.

We will also have a new bonus episode recorded for October 20th. So never fear.

In this episode, Alex and Joe discuss another controversial book. Today we are talking about The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. We don't delve too deeply into the controversy about the author, as neither of us looked too hard into it. It didn't really have much to do with the assigned reading. What we do discuss though, is how much we both enjoyed rereading this fun little story about an Indian leaving the reservation. We hope you get something out of this discussion also.

Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month. And on the 20th we will provide you lovely listeners with a bonus episode (as noted, the brothers are both becoming very busy with life, so this schedule may be changing; please stay tuned for any updates that they will be making). Please make sure to subscribe so that you never miss an episode. And please be active listeners and comment and rate on how you think we are doing. All the details below.

Please help us grow this podcast. The more listeners we get the more we can do. While Alex and Joe love talking books it is nice to know we aren't the only two out there blathering into the universe.

  • A Monster Calls Book Review
    Sep 5 2025

Alex has picked a powerful book for this month. We read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It is a middle school read with lots of pictures that are stunning and add to the text amazingly. A book truly worth reading. Even the curmudgeon, Joe, was impressed with this book.

Next month Joe has picked a book that he doesn't love, but has had trouble forgetting. And really, isn't that what books are supposed to do? Stick with us in ways that we would never have expected? Joe will be having us all read The Wanting Seed by Anthony Burgess. Who would have guessed, the author who wrote A Clockwork Orange would be our first repeat author. Both brothers would have put money down for some of the more popular authors they have already covered... So, make sure you put down a notification for next month, so you don't forget to give it a listen.

• Bonus Episode: Movie to Book Comparison of Fear and Loathing
    Aug 20 2025

Joe and Alex have a super special bonus episode for everyone today. We had a fan request for a book, and we decided to combine the book with a movie critique.

The book (and movie) that we are covering today is, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson. A drug fueled ride of extremes that will make you sick with envy. Or make you want to puke with all the excess. Either way, we hope that you enjoy our discussion. In the comments on Spotify, give us some more book to movie comparisons you might enjoy. Alex and Joe will do their best to get to them.

Next month the brothers are covering the moving and iconic book A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. It is a can't miss kind of book. So mark it in your calendars, September 5th, the episode will be airing.

Just as a reminder, we post twice monthly. On the 5th we post our book of the month.
