 The Project Censored Show is a weekly public affairs program that airs Fridays from 1-2 P.M. Pacific time on KPFA Pacifica Radio. The program is an extension of the work Project Censored began in 1976 celebrating independent journalism while fighting media censorship and supporting a truly free press. The program focuses on The News That Didn’t Make the News. Each week, co-hosts Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips conduct in depth interviews with their guests and offer hard hitting commentary on the key political, social, and economic issues of the day with an emphasis on critical media literacy.     Trump versus local autonomy: the case of DC / Western fashions, global-South sweatshops

    Mickey Huff and Eleanor Goldfield co-host this week’s program. For the first half-hour, Eleanor looks at Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops on the streets of Washington, DC, and his attempt to take over the District’s local police department. Eleanor’s guest is long-time DC community organizer Natacia Kanpper. [Note: their interview about this rapidly-changing story was recorded on August 18.] Then, how Western fashion generates sweatshop conditions and extreme working hours at clothing factories in China, Bangladesh, and the other low-wage nations where manufacturers locate. Mickey speaks with Project Censored intern Jayden Henry, who did a report on this issue. Natacia Knapper has 15 years experience in community organizing in the District of Columbia, and is currently working with Ward 1 Mutual Aid, the Migrant Families’ Collective, and other organizations. Jayden Henry is a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, studying history and political science. He also hosts a talk show (“I Want to Tell You Something”) on the campus radio station, WRVU.     Eleanor Goldfield hosts this week’s program, and dedicates the full hour to a discussion of Palestine. Her first guest, Ramzy Baroud, describes the essential role of cultural hegemony in subduing a colonized people, why Israel has failed to culturally colonize the people of Gaza, and has therefore resorted to horrific violence. He also explains how reporting by Gazans has changed the global perception of what accurate journalism really is. In the first half-hour, Mickey speaks with investigative journalist Will Potter. Potter’s new book “Little Red Barns,” identifies the many destructive impacts wrought by factory farming — on animals, on farm communities, on the world’s climate, and on human health. He also exposes Big Ag’s tactics to suppress the truth about the harms it causes. Then Mischa Geracoulis interviews Heidi Boghosian about her new book, “Cyber Citizens.” Boghosian contends that, in a world of pervasive connectivity, Americans must practice ‘cyber hygiene’ not only individually, as a precaution against identity theft, but also collectively, in defense of democratic rights. .
