"A joy and a delight!" That's me talking about Eleri Ward, our guest on the pod today! A musical theatre girl at heart, she blew up during the pandemic after she recorded an album of Sufjan Stevens inspired Soundheim covers in her closet. You may have also seen her performance at Miscast 23, or caught her in the Florence version of Gatsby which we discuss in this episode!

We also dish about pedestrian lyrics, singing in the groove, how you don't need to know how to do something to do it, and the time she had to pee during her encore. We get into a deep discussion about getting inventive on Broadway and about staying authentic as we discuss the musical she is writing, and about how it's creating a new path in terms of what we think a musical should sound like.

And I challenge Eleri to mash up different composers with different genres and it gets straight silly so make sure to stay till the end!

It's Laura Benanti day!!! She's been in 11 Broadway shows and about a million TV shows and is currently selling out her solo show at The Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. Not only is she the coolest, but she also uses her platform and star power to talk about issues affecting women that are often shied away from!

We dish about parenting, how making friends in her 30's saved her, perimenopause, whether or not she's done with Broadway and what's next for her show, Nobody Cares! We also play a game of favorites and find out what the perfect night out for Laura Benanti is.

Pinch me I'm dreaming for we have Alex Brightman on the pod today! As a gigantic, huge, massive fan of his, this conversation did not disappoint. From School of Rock, to Beetlejuice, to being a voice on the wildly popular Hazbin Hotel cartoon series, to writing pilots and new musicals, Alex Brightman has been BUSY.

We dish about creating a life work balance after being so busy for so long, de-raunchifying Beetlejuice, his love of comedy, why he stopped doing the stage door and of course, Jamba Juice. Alex also shares why he still loves auditioning for roles and has some advice for actors.

This week we have comedian Avery Pearson on the pod!!!! Avery started in downtown theatre, then discovered he could write funny songs as a career so decided to switch gears. He has written songs for the Espy's, SNL, and is currently writing a musical called Space Cowgirl. And you can watch his brand new comedy special called GIVE IT UP AVERY PEASON right now on Veeps!

We dish about picking a writing partner, the process of writing it (pomodoro anyone?) and Avery tells us about how Paul McCartney and him ended up taking pictures in the bathroom together.

We play a musical game at the end where I challenge Avery to come up with titles and songs for three new musicals and spolier alert...one involves Creed!

Had the best time with this weeks guest Ryann Redmond! She has been in so many fun things including Bring It On, Margaritaville, Once Upon a One More Time, and was Olaf in Frozen. I mean, if that's not a party resume I don't know what is! She most recently was hanging in San Diego doing Regency Girls a show about a reproductive roadtrip that hopefully (fingers crossed) can be seen on Broadway soon.

We dish about being a Georgia peach and moving to the Big Apple, getting plucked from a workshop to audition for Lin Manuel Miranda and having no idea who he is, making your Broadway debut with 25 other newbies, and our favorite Britney songs.
