About this listen

Eric Goldbrener and special guest Rabbi Mona Alfi discuss power and principle and the apocalypse and ask "Is religion good for the Jews?"

Rabbi Mona Alfi is fueled by a passion for Tikkun Olam. By merging religion and social action, she aims to help people express Jewish values in daily life. As spiritual leader of Sacramento's Congregation B’nai Israel, she works to foster a caring community that's engaged in synagogue and society.

Rabbi Alfi believes, “the purpose of religion is not only helping us get closer to God, but in getting closer to God, we should be motivated to become more engaged in the world and in people’s lives.

Mona Alfi was raised in Southern California in a family that mixes the traditions of her Ashkenazi mother and her Iranian-born Jewish father. This heritage of blended traditions has informed Rabbi Alfi’s view of Judaism as a dynamic religion that changes to reflect society and is not meant to be monolithic in its expression.
