  • Is high cholesterol always bad – and can we lower it without medication?
    Mar 17 2026

In this episode of Healthy Her, host Amelia Phillips chats with leading Australian lipid expert and chemical pathologist Dr Michael Page (aka Instagram's 'Cholesterologist') about the complex topic of high cholesterol – a real problem for so many mid-life women once oestrogen drops. Or is it?

Clearing up once and for all whether high cholesterol is actually something to worry about, Dr Michael also outlines the steps we can take to lower our levels without medication. He discusses all the basic (plus some more advanced) lipid markers, answers Amelia's questions around the impact of GLP-1s and weight loss on cholesterol, and offers his views on the role of plant sterols and other supplements.

    About the guest:

Dr Michael Page is a doctor, lipid specialist and CEO of Clinipath Pathology, a leading pathology practice in Western Australia. The former President of the Australian Medical Association (WA), he completed his PhD on cholesterol disorders that run in families, and runs a clinic for patients with related conditions.

A consultant chemical pathologist with a special interest in lipid disorders, cardiovascular risk assessment and advanced lipid testing, Dr Michael helps GPs and specialists interpret complex cholesterol lipid patterns and translates them into practical prevention strategies.

He has extensive experience managing inherited lipid conditions such as familial hypercholesterolaemia, as well as guiding patients through the often confusing landscape of cholesterol results, coronary calcium scoring and medication decisions. Dr Michael also shares practical advice and the latest research as the 'Cholesterologist' on Instagram.
