    In this episode I sit down with Gemma Kelly, a women’s wellness and breathwork coach. Gemma shares how her own experience of health anxiety after finding a breast lump led her to discover box breathing, which then sparked a deep dive into breathwork training and daily practice.

    We talk about how breath awareness is such a foundational tool for regulating the nervous system, helping shift the body from a state of fear into safety, and how you can use those small “in-between” moments like driving or waiting to actually practise this in real life.

    Gemma explains the benefits of nasal breathing and how mouth breathing can be linked to stress, snoring, and reduced oxygenation. We also touch on the fact that some breath-hold techniques can feel triggering, especially for those with trauma, asthma, or past breathing-related experiences, and why it’s so important to work with trauma-informed, qualified facilitators in what is currently an unregulated space.

  • Exploring Hypnotherapy: A Path Beyond Health Anxiety with Steve Woods

    In this episode, I introduce a conversation for anyone struggling with health anxiety as I sit down with hypnotherapist Steve Woods to explore how hypnosis can support anxiety recovery.

    Steve shares how he got into hypnosis and explains it as a natural state of high focus that we all experience. He reassures us that most people can be hypnotised, and that stray thoughts or distractions don’t stop the process from working.

    We dive into the role of the subconscious mind, particularly how its core function is protection, which can sometimes misfire and trigger unnecessary fight-or-flight responses. This is especially relevant in health anxiety, where focusing on symptoms or turning to “Dr Google” can amplify fear.

    Steve explains how hypnotherapy works by bypassing conscious doubt and creating new, emotionally grounded patterns, often focusing on the future rather than revisiting the past. We also touch on how hypnosis can support pain reduction when used appropriately.

    One of the key takeaways is that you don’t have to fully “believe” in hypnosis for it to work, but you do need to want change. Steve shares that many clients see measurable progress within 3–4 sessions and learn anchoring techniques to maintain that progress.

  • The Two-Step Solution for Moving Beyond Health Anxiety (That No-One Talks About!)

    In this episode, I talk about something that was a huge turning point in my own recovery from health anxiety: understanding that you can’t calm the mind without also calming the body.

    For years I thought the solution was purely mindset work. I tried to challenge my thoughts, question the worst-case scenarios, and logic my way out of the fear. Sometimes it helped briefly, but the anxiety always came back. What I didn’t realise at the time was that health anxiety isn’t just a thinking problem .. it’s also a nervous system problem.

    When your nervous system becomes sensitised, it starts reacting to normal sensations as if they are dangerous. Fearful thoughts trigger stress hormones, which create very real physical sensations in the body. Those sensations then fuel more catastrophic thinking, and before you know it you’re stuck in a loop where the mind and body are constantly reinforcing each other.

    In this episode, I explain why so many people get stuck trying to recover. Some people focus only on thought-based approaches like CBT and reframing, while others focus only on body-based practices such as breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, or walking. The reality is that recovery usually requires working with both.

    I share how learning to signal safety to my nervous system ... through slow breathing, longer exhales, grounding, gentle movement, and even posture ... helped calm my body’s stress response. At the same time, I had to learn to recognise when my mind was scanning for danger, gently reframe those thoughts, and bring my attention back to the present moment.

    Recovery isn’t about eliminating every symptom or never feeling anxious again. It’s about calming the reactive system so that your mind and body stop interpreting normal sensations as threats.

    I also talk about the importance of consistency, accountability, and why having support during the recovery process can make such a difference.
