What’s a Massachusetts kid doing hanging out in California, Arizona Territory and Nevada? I love California—the scale, the ambition, and that specific West Coast light In the end the pull of home was stronger. In my latest Substack piece, What’s a Massachusetts kid doing hanging out in California, Arizona Territory and Nevada? I look at the moment the "Disney dream" collided with the reality of the road. It’s a journey from the innocence of the Mickey Mouse Club to a 100-degree desert where the truth finally became clear: Family and friends won this one.
