About this listen

As Joan enters the middle of the Olympic marathon, her lead has grown, but danger lies ahead: heat, humidity, and a hill to an empty freeway where the course turns East toward the LA Coliseum. Will her knee hold up despite the surgery that nearly cost her a bid at the Olympic Trials? And will Norwegian Grete Waitz - widely considered the best marathoner in the world at the time - come from behind and take gold?©2022 Audible Originals, LLC (P)2022 Audible Originals, LLC

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book that emphasises ‘running should be a joy not a chore and should act, not as an added stressor in our busy lives but more as recovery from life in general’. Floris not only shares is own experiences (both good and not so good) in running but insights learned from his many interviews with elites such as Eliud Kipchoge, Courtney Daulwalter, Kilian Jornet, Stephen Seiler, Matt Fitzgerald and Philip Maffetone to name a few. He also interviews and shares feedback from everyday recreational runners about what works for them and what helps them become a healthy and happier runner. His primary focus is on low heart rate training to reduce stress on the heart, reduce injuries and promote longevity. All aspects of running are covered from biomechanics, physiological adaptations, nutrition and the importance of sleep and recovery. Each chapter ends with a synopsis that captures the most salient points to remember. If you are looking for motivation and inspiration in your running journey this book is for you.

An holistic guide to running for all levels of runners
