Slenderman is a notorious internet legend, first coming to life from a photoshop contest in 2009, and since then, appearing in various creeypasta stories and making his debut in quite a few films. His cryptic nature makes him a figure of obsession, even bleeding into real life tragedies. Now, if you've been on the internet since 2010, there's a good chance you've heard of Slenderman and other creepypastas. But who even is Slenderman, and do we ever figure out his true motives? The Wendigo is a mythological creature from Native American folklore. It has had various portrayals in media over the last century, typically depicted as a man-eating monster with an icy heart, but its true origins are even darker and much less of a physical manifestation. But has its wide portrayal in pop culture doing more harm than good, and has the true legend been muddled among bad retellings? We do a deep dive into a couple Wendigo retellings, in particular, Wendigo 2001, and see just how scary the Wendigo really is.
