  • Season 2 Episode 7: Parental Trauma & Partner Choices
    Sep 24 2025

Parental Trauma is often defined by what a child perceives of how they were treated or spoken to - but it also appears in what a child grew up watching. There are two ways it could go - completely avoid it successfully OR go in trying to run away from through the same situation without recognising it.

That is the story of author, Agatha Mwende whose life flipped and turned when her single mum got married to a man who was polygamous. The trauma she observed watching her mum cry herself to sleep after having arguments over her step father's infidelity got her afraid thinking every man will cheat or end-up polygamous.

In the twist of it all she shares with our host Kalekye that how she built an idea that turned out to be the illusion of forever - her desire to have a solid relationship and family put her into a state that led her to trauma in her own relationship.

Agatha's story gives perspective that we may often be subconsciously influenced by the dysfunction we witness.

  • Season 2 Episode 6: Parental Trauma and Absenteesim with Saiton Righa
    Aug 27 2025

Mothers are home. She is an anchor to a child's sense of belonging and comfort - so what happens when she leaves before a child has even understood her place in the world?

That is the situation our guest, Saiton Righa, found herself when things became economically tough for her and her mum.

From the age of nine, Saiton found herself being raised by silent grandparents and picking up her mother's load. In this conversation, she shares the motions she went through growing up un-mothered and living on a promise that never came.

It is in this conversation that we learn that parental trauma can leave one fighting to survive and making decisions to get some sense of feeling that resembles being alive. It is also in this story we learn how never experiencing what being mothered feels can bring such gripping fear when you yourself become a mother.

In this episode, Saiton reveals how faith in God became her anchor and has been her guide as she continues to confront the invisible wound that comes with parental trauma and an absent parent.

  • Season 2 Episode 5: Generational Parental Trauma with Achie Nimo
    Jul 30 2025

All things work together for good whether we know it or not. A breakup led to depression and that led to resolving lingering hurt between a mother and daughter.

Achie Nimo is not a guest to this podcast, we have loved her insights and wisdom on season 2 when she gave us nuggets to survive Valentines without pressure. In this episodes she returns with a conversation dedicated to her late mother.

Parental trauma shows up in many different ways and one that is quite heavily missed is generational parental trauma simply because we assume if we go through a bad traumatising episode we will not do it to anyone else and more so our own child that we love - but that is not the case. Achie sits down with our host, Kalekye, to reveal the things she discovered about her mum in a journey that began after her own heart was broken by a man she was engaged to and through it a journey of healing and understanding began.

Though time cut the journey short when Achie lost her mother to cancer, she still cherishes the moments of therapy, healing and understanding that finally let her see her mother as a friend and a safe space.

  • Season 2 Episode 4: Parental Trauma and Rejection with Earnest Bantu
    May 28 2025

Parental Trauma and mother wounds clearly do not pick sexes as many would assume. Men have grown up in tough situations too but often shy away from sharing.

In this episode of Conversations with Kalekye, media personality and actor Earnest Bantu opens up about his childhood and how it lowered his self confidence and esteem at an early age with the mixed emotions he received from his parents. He felt like a failure who was good for nothing and unloved until he was winning at football - but that love soon faded when he sadly had a bad football accident that left him in hospital for a whole year.

This conversation really leaves one wondering why parents only show love to their children based on what they can get from them and how comparison kills spirits. With the help of our partners, The Truth Encounter Coaching Services lead coach & Counsellor, Agiso Odhuno, we bring healing and understanding to Earnest and anyone else going through such a traumatic experience that creeps up into their dating relationships.

  • Season 2 Episode 3: Parental Trauma Beyond The Grave with Grace Kabebere
    Apr 30 2025

There is nothing that prepares you for loss... especially at a young age.

On this third episode of the series Parental Trauma and Dating, Kalekye sits down with Grace Kabebere, an ordinary Kenyan with an extraordinary story. Grace who is now stable and working as an Administrative Assistant did not begin her journey here. She was traumatised by death at an early age, never getting to know her real mother, being raised by her maternal aunt and grandmother who sadly also dies back to back and by the age of 7 years, she was off to be cared for by a relative.

From love to hardship, Grace took refuge in boarding school until that could not protect her anymore. She has struggled to take care of herself forcing her to be so thick skinned that all she knows is to put herself first and build up walls. She has been a work in progress and we are happy to introduce her to our partners The Truth Encounter Coaching Services Kenya to get her the help she needs to fully heal.
