About this listen

In an explosive Audible Original investigative series, executive produced by James Patterson, veteran journalist and New York Times best-selling author Vicky Ward chronicles her 19-year quest to uncover what - or who - is behind Jeffrey Epstein’s wealth, influence, and criminality. You’ll hear testimonies from over 20 individuals with ties to Epstein, as well as previously off-the-record transcripts and exclusive conversations with Epstein himself.

Ward’s journey began in 2002 when she profiled Epstein for Vanity Fair. At the time, she didn’t realize just how close she came to uncovering the financier’s web of secrets, connections, and wealth that enabled his sexual crimes and shielded him from justice for decades. As she investigated further, Ward would unearth ties to a criminal empire of money-laundering, gun-running, and international espionage.

Amidst all the bold-faced names, the saga repeatedly intertwines with that of a single enigmatic figure: Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s ex-lover, former employee, and alleged co-conspirator. The disgraced heiress, who now awaits trial herself, may hold the key to unlocking the truth behind Epstein.

  • Prologue, Episode 1: Ghislaine Behind Bars
    Jul 15 2021
In 2002, veteran reporter Vicky Ward was assigned what seemed like an easy story: Find the source of Jeffery Epstein’s money. The story turned hard, though, when she stumbled on early sexual abuse allegations about Jeffrey and Ghislaine Maxwell and Vicky found her professional and personal safety under threat. In Jeffrey’s absence, Vicky now chases Ghislaine’s secrets: her relationship to Jeffrey, what she knows of the building of his web of international elites, and the fate of his fortune.

Vicky tells the first, of her three-part personal story, of trying to report the early on-the-record, alleged sexual allegations raised by two brave women, Maria and Annie Farmer against Jeffrey and Ghislaine. But in never heard before conversations between Jeffrey and Vicky in 2002, Vicky begins to understand what a master manipulator Jeffrey is and how difficult it will be to tell the Farmer sisters’ story.

What this podcast has done for me is to go beyond what one hears on 'the news'. The so-called rich & famous are tainted enough to make one realise that this world is in, and will continue to be in, a massive mess. God help us all!!

I really enjoyed the series well written and presented, every episode was entertaining. Its an intreaguing story. The tile is slightly missleading as I would say the story is 70% about Jeffery Epstein abd touches on Ghislains invilvement almost sympathetically, almost leaving the listener with the impression that she is a victim. Vicky Ward should do more of these or even just narration, great voice to listen to, and came over quite sincere in here involvement even when things did not go her way.

Intriguing and well narrated

Such a well put together doco. So impressed with Vicki Ward and her exceptional reporting and narrating skills. Very well produced. A brilliant (free!) listen. I just have a tiny little gripe.. Americans may say 'off of" for 'off' but it doesn't mean the rest of the world must follow suit as it's pointless and sounds bizarre with an English accent.

Excellent

shocking and well researched

Great podcast but it was 70% Epstein and I wanted something focused more on Ghislaine. Finished it in 1 day while on a road trip though. Vicky really worked hard on it. The research and analysis were incredibly in depth

Fascinating and thorough
