About this listen

Welcome to Bariatric Banter! A Canadian Look at Weight Loss Surgery! Hi, I’m Hannah! Two years ago, I made the life-changing decision to have bariatric surgery (VSG). I swapped fast food for protein shakes, lost 147 pounds, and gained a new perspective (plus my fair share of loose skin—thanks for that). My co-host, Steph, is fresh out of surgery, already 50 pounds down, and still figuring out how to sip water without feeling like she just ran a marathon. 🏋️‍♀️💦Together, we’re beyond excited to bring you The Bariatric Banter Podcast—a raw, hilarious, and unfiltered deep dive into life before and after bariatric surgery. Nothing's off-limits, from the highs and the lows to the hopes, fears, and weird cravings (yes, we’re looking at you, cottage cheese).Join Canadian hosts Hannah (2 years post-op) and Steph (2 months post-op) as we share life's real, raw, and funny side after bariatric surgery. With 200+ lbs lost between us, we dive into heartfelt stories, honest conversations, and plenty of laughs. From PCOS to post-op struggles, we tackle it all with humour, swearing, and a lot of heart.Whether you’re pre-op, post-op, or just curious, hit play, subscribe, and join the banter every week! 🎙️ Hygiene & Healthy Living Social Sciences

  • Ep 19: We Didn’t Get Fat Eating Salad! Obesity, Accountability & the Hard Truths of Recovery
    May 19 2025

In this brutally honest episode of Bariatric Banter, Hannah and Steph dive deep into the messy middle of obesity, weight loss, and what it really takes to heal your relationship with food. From calling out the excuses we all make (“I was a boredom eater for sure”) to exploring how genetics, trauma, and instant gratification hijack our habits, this episode is part therapy, part tough love.

They also get candid about the behind-the-scenes struggles of building a community post-surgery, and holding themselves accountable—publicly and privately. If you’ve ever justified poor food choices, felt the emotional weight of eating, or thought surgery would be the finish line (spoiler: it’s not), this one’s for you.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cringe. You’ll probably rethink your snack drawer.
