  • E278: Why Resilience Feels Hard After Trauma — And How to Rebuild It: Tammy's Take
    Mar 10 2026
In this Tammy’s Take follow-up episode, Tammy Vincent expands on the powerful conversation from Episode 277 with resilience coach Tom Lenoble about what he calls “terrible gifts.”Tom shared the idea that some of life’s hardest experiences can eventually lead to unexpected growth. While that perspective can be incredibly empowering, Tammy dives deeper into an important truth many people who grew up in dysfunction understand: resilience doesn’t always feel like strength. Sometimes it simply feels like survival. In this teaching episode, Tammy explains how resilience is not just a personality trait — it is deeply connected to the nervous system. For those who grew up navigating chaos, unpredictability, or emotional instability, resilience was often overused early in life. The nervous system may still be wired for survival, which can make healing and growth feel exhausting.Tammy explores how true resilience begins with regulation, not pressure. When the nervous system learns that it is finally safe, the brain becomes capable of creativity, problem solving, and forward movement again. You’ll also hear Tammy’s perspective on reframing difficult life experiences. While trauma itself does not need to be celebrated, it can become the foundation for empathy, emotional intelligence, and purpose when we choose how to move forward. In this episode you’ll learn:• Why resilience is biological, not just psychological• How childhood dysfunction wires the nervous system for survival• Why regulation must come before growth• How to identify the strengths your hardest experiences created• A simple reflection exercise to help you begin rebuilding resilienceIf this episode resonates with you, Tammy also offers a complimentary Inner Voice Frequency Scan to help identify emotional, physical, and energetic patterns your body may still be holding.Because healing doesn’t happen alone.Hey there, I’m so glad you’re here and tuning in! • E276: Tammy's Take: What Forgiveness Really Means for Trauma Survivors
    Mar 6 2026

In this follow-up solo episode of Adult Child of Dysfunction, Tammy Vincent expands on a powerful moment from her recent conversation with Carly Alyssa Thorne about forgiveness and trauma recovery.

Forgiveness is one of the most misunderstood concepts in healing. Many trauma survivors hear the word “forgive” and assume it means excusing abuse, forgetting what happened, or allowing harmful people back into their lives.

But true forgiveness is something entirely different.

In this teaching episode, Tammy explains how forgiveness is actually a nervous system process. It is not about condoning the past — it is about releasing the emotional and energetic cord that keeps the body stuck in fight, flight, or freeze.

Drawing from her work as a trauma-informed ACOA coach, Tammy walks listeners through how to recognize when trauma is still stored in the body and how to begin the process of releasing it.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • What forgiveness really means for trauma survivors

    • How to know if your nervous system has truly processed past trauma

    • Why anger and resentment keep the body stuck in survival mode

    • The difference between forgiveness and reconciliation

    • Practical first steps to begin moving toward real emotional freedom

    • How nervous system regulation plays a role in healing trauma

Tammy also shares simple ways to begin noticing your body’s responses to past experiences and how tools like breath work, somatic awareness, and nervous system regulation can support deeper healing.

If you’ve ever struggled with the idea of forgiveness after trauma, this episode will help you reframe the concept and understand how healing can happen without minimizing what you’ve been through.

Forgiveness is not about the other person.

It is about reclaiming your power, your peace, and your nervous system.
