  • MORE PRAYER FOR OUR NATION! Monday Starter Sept. 1, 2025
    Sep 1 2025

Times have become turbulent it appears once again in our nation. With a recent school shooting in Minneapolis, some politicians and pundits once again hurled anger at those who pray for people in deep distress after tragedy in our country. This is an unhealthy and unhelpful response from leaders, who really should consider that this nation has been driven to prayer in times of national emergency throughout its history from the Pilgrims, the Colonies, times of war throughout our history, to present. On this episode of 2Days Denarius, Ron Thomas gives some response to those who dismiss God and those who call out to Him in times of distress. He also provides a prayer for the nation, along with encouraging words from a well-known politician with a much more positive and correct approach as to why people reach out to an Almighty God in disaster and/or distress. It concludes with a small presentation of a couple of verses from Martin Luther's famous hymn, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God."

  • JONATHAN EDWARDS CONVERSION & QUOTES: Monday Starter Aug 18, 2025
    Aug 18 2025

Jonathan Edwards, in the eyes of many in the Christian faith, remains the greatest theologian America ever produced. Unfortunately, many tie Edwards to a particular sermon he preached in Enfield, CT, in 1741 and to this day label him as a "hellfire and brimstone preacher" only. This is vastly untrue. This episode of 2Days Denarius takes a look at the conversion of Jonathan Edwards in his own words, along with a few quotes to help demonstrate Edwards's ability to preach on or address the full counsel of God in thorough fashion. This episode is gospel oriented and encourages Christians to focus highly on our Lord and Savior daily in their walk of faith.

Quote regarding the conversion of Jonathan Edwards comes from the excellent book:

"The Essential Jonathan Edwards" by Owen Strachan, Douglas Allen Sweeney & John Piper. Moody Publishers: 2010.

  • HOW WE VIEW OUR TRIALS MATTERS! Monday Morning Starter Aug. 11, 2025
    Aug 11 2025

In our lives as Christians, we often overlook God's purpose for trials, testing, difficulties, among other challenges He may bring our way. One of the greatest challenges in all of Scripture is found in Genesis 22 when Abraham was tested by God to give His son, Isaac, in sacrifice. It's clear Abraham never lost his trust even in the midst of pain of potential loss. And after God's provision of a ram for the sacrifice, Abraham looked back and labeled what took place as victory of God's deliverance. This Monday Starter devotional comes from a sermon by a famous minister in his time, Alexander MacLaren. MacLaren noted some worthwhile actions and reflections we can take in our own lives to help us view our own trials, temptations, etc. in a different and more positive way. Listeners will be greatly encouraged by what this episode offers!

The material from this episode comes from an excellent devotional for daily reading noted below. It is highly recommended for listeners to purchase one and put on their reading list!

  • Monday Prayer Starter Week of August 4, 2025
    Aug 4 2025

What are the characteristics of effective prayers and praying? Well, one of them is praying biblically in accordance with the will of God from Scripture. Few were equal or better than this than the Puritans. One of the greatest devotionals I've ever read and meditated upon is titled, "The Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions," edited by Arthur Bennett. It is an inspirational collection of prayers/devotionals that will certainly engage the reader's heart and mind to learn prayer and follow Christ more closely. This prayer on this episode of 2Days Denarius is titled, "Morning Dedication." The author of the prayer is not given, as none are in the book. But prayers from names such as, Richard Baxter, David Brainerd, Thomas Watson, Isaac Watts, Charles Spurgeon, among others are the ones who are the contributors to this collection. It's encouraged to those who listen to acquire a copy of "Valley of Vision" and discover the devotional value of this book!

  • MONDAY PRAYER STARTER WEEK OF JULY 28, 2025!!
    Jul 28 2025

There is no better way than to begin the work week with prayer! On this episode of 2Days Denarius, a prayer from Puritan David Clarkson is provided to give listeners encouragement and added focus on the Lord to better serve Him in their endeavors. David Clarkson was a Puritan who served as an associate to the great John Owen. He also understood trials since he was one of more than 2,000 Puritan ministers who suffered great loss during England's "Great Ejection" in 1662. This prayer concentrates on believer's seeking Christ's righteousness, while also helping us to realize that putting Jesus first in our lives is far greater than anything this world has to offer.

This prayer comes from Robert Elmer's excellent collection of Puritan prayers noted in the bibliography below. This is a great devotional work that is highly recommended to 2DaysD listeners!

  • PRAY FOR PASTOR JOHN MACARTHUR!
    Jul 14 2025

Over the last few days, famous evangelical pastor, John MacArthur, has been in an intensive care unit (ICU) in the Los Angeles area. His family announced that his prognosis and life expectancy are near the end at this point. A recent update from Grace Community Church lead staffer, Phil Johnson, shows that MacArthur's passing is imminent at this point. John MacArthur was a faithful and impactful minister throughout his career. He was a faithful expository preacher who gave his congregation and those who followed the Grace to You ministries the full counsel of God. He will be greatly missed, but will surely share joy in heaven with the saints for a job on earth that was well done. In the meantime, let us keep Pastor John, his family, and the Grace Community Church family in our prayers.

  • YES!! SHORT PRAYERS STILL MATTER!
    Jun 12 2025

One of the ways we best learn how to pray is to read the prayers in Scripture. Another valuable way to grow in our desire to pray and how to do it is from reading the prayers of faith heroes from the past. This episode of 2Days Denarius podcast is devotionally-focused on the value of short prayers. There are four prayers from select early church fathers that are presented and discussed based on the ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) prayer model. It's a wonderful devotional experience that all of us will benefit from in enhancing our prayers and spiritual growth. These prayers are found in Robert Elmer's valuable book as noted in the bibliography below.

Elmer, Robert, ed. Fount of Heaven: Prayers of the Early Church. Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2022.
