愛猫リリーを一日中溺愛する庄造に、妻の福子は嫉妬が隠せない。前妻の品子を 姑と両親とが謀って追い出して、その後釜に座ったはいいものの、これではたまらない。そんなある日、品子から手紙が舞い込んだ。家を出て寂しいからリリーだけでも譲ってくれないか、というのである。あんなに冷たくしていた猫を急に好きになるはずはない、これは何か魂胆があっての事…と、初めはとりあうつもりがなかったが、庄造のあまりのリリーの溺愛ぶりに福子さえも嫉妬を覚え、姑とともに説得して品子のところにやってしまった。 庄造は、リリーがつらい思いをしていないかと気になって仕方がなく、或る日、福子との喧嘩をきっかけに、すがるようにリリーの様子を見に行くのだが、案に相違にして、 リリーは品子にすっかりなついてしまっていた…。
