Publisher's Summary

Richard Derrington is 28 and single. More single than he'd like to be. More single than he'd expected to be, and not coping well. Since Anna trashed him six months ago he's been trying to find his way again. He's doing his job badly, he's playing tennis badly, his renovating attempts haven't got past the veranda, and he's wondering when things are going to change. Zigzag Street covers six weeks of Richard's life in Brisbane's Red Hill. Six weeks of rumination, chaos, poor judgement, interpersonal clumsiness...and, eventually, hope.

Very enjoyable and entertaining

All very recognisable for me. Lived there and lived many similar experiences. But even if zI hadn’t, I still would have loved it. Thanks Nick. I will now check out his other titles.

Gets better as it goes along

To start with, I was struggling to stay engaged with this book. The main character was quite unlikeable. But it did get better over time and was quite sweet by the end.

more than a romp

I laughed out loud many times It's witty, it's well observed but it shows our vulnerability. Seems we are all flawed characters. What are we going to do about that? Nick Earls says to embrace it.
The shoe scene is so well written it milks the maximum possible milk out if it.
Well performed in general but Rachel's voice didn't work for me.
As Molly used to say, do yourself a favour.

Fantastic!

This was a brilliant read, thoroughly enjoyable. The author perfectly captured the tone of the Aussie man in Brisbane. It was almost like a conversation with a friend rather than a book. It was just the right pace and genuinely funny.
The narrator is absolutely fabulous as well. Time flew way to quickly listening to this.
