"Narr vom Bodensee" nennt man bis heute den weltweit berühmten Erfinder des lenkbaren Luftschiffs: Graf Ferdinand Adolf Heinrich August von Zeppelin. Zeppelin wird 1838 in Konstanz geboren. Er ist ein deutscher Graf, General der Kavallerie und Luftschiffkonstrukteur. Was aber kaum einer weiß: Der Schwabe unternimmt als junger Mann eine waghalsige Reise nach Amerika und wird dort sogar von Präsident Abraham Lincoln empfangen. Anschließend beobachtet der junge Graf mit der Genehmigung des amerikanischen Präsidenten als Kriegsberichterstatter den Verlauf des amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs. Mitten in den Kriegswirren unternimmt er seine erste Ballonfahrt. Das abenteuerliche Erlebnis inspiriert ihn einige Jahre später zur Konstruktion eines lenkbaren Luftschiffs.
