Catherine de Medici was a clever woman and devoted to the well being of her children’s lives and to France.
Her daughter Elizabeth of Valois walked a tricky path as a go between with her mother Catherine and husband Phillip 11.
It was very interesting to hear in more detail than usual about Mary Queen of Scots. Her Guise relatives put grandiose ideas in her head about her importance of the royal blood in her veins. Mary did not seem to have a mentor to teach her how to rule, however the French raised Mary was a round peg in a square hole in Scotland and struggled to get her footing once there. A great book which I recommend.
