About this listen

From the global bestselling author of Iris is More than Okay comes a sweeping, Transatlantic, second chance romance that will steal your heart. Narrated by Bella Maclean, breakout star of Jilly Cooper's Rivals.

Holland Beck – yes, after the country, and no, the story isn’t a good one – hates flying. On the brink of boarding a flight from Heathrow to Los Angeles, she panics. She can’t do it. Travelling triggers all the trauma of her past, the childhood memories she’s done her very best to forget.

But thanks to cool, calm and collected Xander, Holland somehow manages to board the plane. Twelve hours and six thousand miles later, they touch down in LA and aren’t quite able to say goodbye. They make arrangements to meet at the end of Santa Monica Pier in three days time.

But while Holland turns up, Xander is nowhere to be seen.

A year passes – one ordinary, unremarkable year. Holland does her best to forget the American with the ice blue eyes and slightly crooked smile, but despite her best efforts, the memories remain clear in her mind, refusing to let go. Then one evening, at a friend’s wedding, their worlds collide once more, along with all the unanswered questions: Why wasn't he at the pier that day? What made him change his mind? And why does he carry a hidden sorrow that seems to reflect her own?

You, Again is an achingly tender map of the heart, showing us the roads not taken and the ones we did, and if there is ever a way to retrace our steps, to learn to love again.

Whilst not exactly a fully fledged“Rom Com” this story did provide some comedic moments to lighten the darker atmosphere of the protagonists history. I was engaged from the beginning as I tried to imagine a childhood without love and security, and being consumed with guilt over past events. Eloquently written and very well narrated (considering the need to shift continents and counties) I highly recommend this book.
PS Loved the Rom Com ending.

Insightful and totally engaging

The plot was great, very compelling and I loved the links throughout. I understood Holland’s decisions because of how she grew up, which made me even more frustrated with those said decisions because Xander had only ever been as transparent as he could be at the time. I guess I couldn’t reconcile who she was striving to be with her every choice coming out of a place of severe insecurity. It often felt like she just didn’t know the basic rules of communication because she was so painfully insecure. That was hard to relate to. I almost felt like I knew more how Xander felt even though it was written from Holland’s perspective. I would’ve loved more longing moments, more moments of chemistry too, or just more emphasis on those moments.

The narrator did a fantastic job. A great, soothing voice with well done accents. The different people were distinct and she reads and expresses the emotions of the characters very well.

Xander’s my fave. I wish Holland had more backbone. But I ultimately love them together and hope they’re happy with 6 dogs and 2 kids.

Couldn’t relate, but highly entertained

I loved this book! It was was a slow burner at the start and all the way through I couldn’t tell what was around the corner. Okay, some outcomes were obvious, but the journey there were not. I found it to be heart wrenching at times, relatably real, with a few unexpected twists and also endearing surprises.
Beautifully narrated or performed; the voice, accents, tone and pace were woven together perfectly.
It was like I was there, as the third person, seeing at all unfold.
Stunning! Thank you.

This book is so beautifully written, eloquent and immersive. It was well spoken, and detailed without being overly wordy.

loved the performance. was just a nice voice and pace to listen to. I found the main character quite self centered. I understand she had trauma however she only thought about herself and how she suffered with very little thought to what the mmc had possibly gone through. And when the main event of the story occurred, it was all about her even though he had major effect as well.

easy listen
