About this listen

From television writer Stephanie K. Smith (Carnival Row; Genius: Picasso) comes Wrecked, a mystical story about historical treasure, generational trauma, and the power of transcendence.

When aging fisherman Louis Mann hears a voice summoning him to an off-limits stretch of Long Island Sound, he knows he might be going crazy but feels compelled to heed the call. A big enough haul of summer flounder could be the windfall Lou needs to change his life–what little time he has left. But then his nets get stuck on something lodged in the ocean floor, uncovering a mystery that quickly ensnares three equally damaged strangers.

Phil, a disgraced Navy diver with a lifetime of resentments; Samantha, a wealthy antiques dealer on the brink of divorce; and Nick, a teenaged artist raised by neo-Nazis are all at rock bottom, just like Lou. And each is convinced that the old man’s discovery–a centuries-old ship–will be their salvation.

Lou, Samantha, Phil and Nick will all have to face the forces that formed them before they can reap any reward pulled from the depths of the Sound. For as magical as La Difesa may be, the wreck alone cannot save anyone. It can only push them to save themselves...if they’re willing.

Loved it, mystical, magical, multifaceted gem of a story. Redemption and finding oneself within.

Will listen again

Cute storyline, was good for a filler while I was waiting for my next credit to drop. Ok for a listen, kinda predictable.

Not bad for a filler

In some parts it was hard to listen to. It felt like I was listening to a robot. Very mechanical, no emotion. Not all performers , just one.

Not for me.

Overall, it’s a nice, unexpectedly magical story. I found a lot of the descriptions of the various romances to be repetitive and cliché, but I enjoyed the adventure/treasure hunting elements. It’s not a life changing book and I wasn’t overly invested in many of the characters, but it was a pleasant listen regardless.

Simple magic

very unengaged, story goes nowhere and is as boring as the characters, flat protagonist and on top horribly narrated and performed. could not finish, even as a background.

very unengaged, flat characters, horribly performe

Every character was a victim of their own bad decisions. The story had such promise but fell totally flat. Really disappointing

Excruciating

Surely this isn’t a real person narrating. She sounds like a robot, or that annoying tik tok voice. Is this the future of audiobooks - AI performances? I couldn’t get further than 1.5 chapters so can’t really comment on the story itself.

Robot narrator?

good plot , interesting use of the metaphysical...swearing was boring and cringey, author should rewrite

unecessary expletives
