Publisher's Summary
A gripping, painfully honest and ultimately inspirational, New York Times bestselling memoir from global superstar and creator of the Red Table Talk series Jada Pinkett Smith.
In a media driven landscape that crafts narratives for our celebrities, Smith recounts her story in an intimate conversation with readers. Along the way, she explores her path to accepting her power as a woman, and her discovery that a strong sense of self is every woman’s right and saving grace.
An impactful and rare memoir that engages and educates, Worthy is a courageous love song to self, to family, to life, and to the world.
From an unconventional upbringing in Baltimore, to an unconventional marriage to one of the most famous men in the world, adhering to the status quo has never been a familiar road for Jada Pinkett Smith. In Worthy, Smith strips herself of all the labels and stories crafted by others, and reclaims her narrative with radical self-love. Worthy teaches us who Jada is, and how to embrace our most authentic loveable souls.
Critic Reviews
'Worthy is at its best when it’s sparky and spiky with self-doubt and humour' i NEWS
‘As a teen, she was a mid-level drug dealer on Baltimore’s streets, repeatedly mugged at gunpoint for whatever she held on her. Surviving such ordeals, and her more recent battles with alopecia, have given her a steely armour’ Daily Telegraph
'It’s a shame that Pinkett Smiths marriage has taken up so much attention because, as Worthy shows, it’s far from the most interesting thing about her’ Hadley Freeman, Sunday Times Magazine

Surprised
I’ve never been much of a fan or purveyor of her work but I’ve obviously heard and seem snippets of her Facebook show and the drama surrounding her and will, before and after the slap.
I admit that I had my perception and opinions about all of it, a lot which was of course formulated from drama outlets and Hollywood gossip.
I was actually quite informative hearing her story and her side of all of it, I can’t discern whether she tweaked any details for her benefit, but hearing all of it and her past really does open one’s eyes to another’s perspective of the situations that have occurred, and helps me to see her differently from how I viewed her before.
I honestly would recommend others to listen to the audiobook and her telling of her story.

Inauthentic.
Left feeling confused. The title “Worthy” suggested a depth of insight into her personal journey, but I felt this story only really covered off the story lines from the media over the years, combined with relentless name dropping. She tells a lot of stories, but fails to connect the dots between the stories and her own lack of worthiness. Too many contradictions throughout the book, it left me feeling like she was tail-coating media controversy.

Great book.
Jada has always seemed so genuine and sincere to me, and I could never understand the hate that she has received publicly, so I thought I’d purchase the book.
This book just reinstated how I did feel about Jada, there is no reason for her to receive the hate she does. She is kind, compassionate and has written a book full of self-awareness and learnings along the way.
There is so much confusion about the Jada/Tupac scenario, and I completely understand and appreciate the solid love and foundation between two friends, Jada explains it all so beautifully.
I’d highly recommend for anyone to read this book, it is inspiring and very heartfelt!

This memoir discussed three central themes mental health, spirituality and narcotics. She explains how these three themes influenced her, her upbringing and he adult life. I was afraid for her and now I realise she is reflecting on past events. This is an in-depth life story. I recommend this memoir.

I loved how she told her life’s journey to this point. So interesting, beautiful and inspiring. She wasn’t afraid to talk about the hardships. 💐 The book made me look at my own life and reflect. It’s also intriguing how easily people want to crucify her. Seems like she transitioning as with all the other steps and parts of her life’s journey. My hope is this opens doors for women to be kinder to ourselves.

A book about narcissism
The book is interesting. There are different stories that are interesting to hear. If you are a fan of biographies, this is a good pick.
What I don't like about the book is that in many places, it looks like the video of the cat walking through obstacles on YouTube. She is not trying at all to handle the conflict - she just talks about how she felt or Will felt. A time for healing and other stuff. But basically, this is what a narcissistic person is all about. You give so much priority on your feelings that you can't see that what you do is more important. And you don't say explicitly that it does not matter what you did and how you behaved, but when you spend 90% of the time explaining how you felt - you kind of imply that what you did was maybe not ok, but everyone would do the same if they were in your shoes. But this is the world we live in. The feelings are the most important thing, and if someone says something that makes you feel bad , it means that this person is broken, so he needs to heal and it is not your fault.

i found the memoir mundane and disappointing.
This wasn't a story that resonated with me.

An incredible life’s journey
Jada talks openly and honestly about her very interesting life’s journey. Her strength and determination is empowering but also humbling when she shares her vulnerability in such an honest raw way.

Totally captivating
Just finished listening to your book. I’m heart weeps for us as woman we endure so much in our becoming. Your journey of self discovery is a true one. Thank you for speaking your truth you didn’t have to set the record straight. People are still going to talk sh*t… people think they have a right to say and put their lies out there.
I see you Jada🫶🏾

I have so much respect for this woman!
Raw and unapologetically human. I didn’t know much about her before, but I’m glad to have had an opportunity to read about her journey. What is life if not a constant series of falls and picking oneself up again and again and in the process hopefully learn more about who you are?

Great life
Her life is so interesting. She's full on, in every aspect and that's so inspiring. A proper non-victim. First part of the book (pre-marriage), I felt my life was mediocre compared to hers. Rest of the book, I felt like "I'd rather stay in my shoes"

Wow!
From the outset of this book I was gripped. I was interested in another perspective. As a massive fan of Jada's work in films, and of Will in TV and movies. I read Will's book when it was released. I could relate to much of his story, tracking and empathising with him. I found the media spotlight on this relationship has me personally to unpack my past traumas and head towards a healing process. After finishing this book I would like to thank you so much for sharing your experience, it has helped at least one person figure out being comfortable with who I am is just gratifying. My Gratitude to you and your future endeavours.
