Publisher's Summary

“Being with him is the very definition of getting stuck between a rock and a hard place.”

All Tristan’s ever wanted was to make a difference - and becoming a lawyer was the tool to make that happen. It’s easy for people to judge others without thinking, but Tristan’s seen too many innocents chewed up and spat out by the system to not fight for those who’ve been wronged. But this case? It’s not just affecting him professionally. His ethics say that he should stay far away from the victim’s family...but his heart says he should bring Upton close and never let him go.

“I can’t believe I trusted him.”

Upton is absolutely incensed that anyone would consider letting his cousin’s murderer out of jail. But he doesn’t have time to dwell on it - he’s got a book to write if he wants to keep food on the table for him and his son. And when his son makes a new friend who has an incredibly attractive father, Upton feels himself falling for the first time since his husband left him four years ago. There’s only one problem - Tristan is a lawyer. For the defense.

Heartwarming

We’re back in Worthington, Texas and it’s great. Tristan and Upton are two men with similar pasts. They have both been left by their spouses. Tristan and Upton both have young sons. The boys met at school and that is how their fathers meet. Upton and Tristan grow to care very much for each other. The problem is that Tristan’s job and Upton’s past collide. This threatens to break them apart. Misunderstandings can cause big problems in young relationships. Tristan is defending the man convicted of killing Upton’s cousin. Upton finds that impossible to understand. Peter does another great job of working out the problems and developing the characters. He makes us feel like we really know these men and their families. Loved listening to Nikola Muckajev again. Thanks for this wonderful story!

PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS AND GRIEF MAKE PEOPLE VERY PR

Upton is a young single father. Tristan is a forty-something single father. They meet because of their children and develop a good relationship. Upton is upset that Oliver Suarez is a wrongfully convicted murderer. Tristan wants to right this wrong, but soon finds out that Oliver was convicted of killing Upton’s cousin and because Oliver was convicted; although wrongfully, Upton is up in arms to hate Tristan and Oliver. The two must find a way to come to terms over this without harming their young sons’ relationship. I love the way Peter fought for Oliver’s rights and related wrongful convictions in this society through his story.

The narration for this story was as wonderful as ever.

Great Book

The tension between the two main characters keeps you on the edge of the seat. This book ties into the previous books in the series making you wonder what the next book will be like. The narrator who did this book is awesome. When he did the voices, they were all slightly different, giving each character a unique voice.

Upton & Tristan

Their son's friendship leads to them spending time together. I enjoyed their burgeoning romance. Tristan knows his secret will not make Upton happy, but he avoids the truth. Their boss are adorable.

A sweet book to read and great to listen to

I was one of the lucky one to be given a free credit for this audio book in exchange for an honest review…well, I liked it so much that after I finished listening it, I bought the book together with the other books of the serie!!!
The story is so very well written, sweet and engaging that hooked me from the very beginning. The characters are fantastic and the little boys are adorable! I will not say anything more about the story itself because already too much have been said in the other reviews and I really don't want to risk to give any spoilers.
Nikola Muckajev did a really great job, his voice is great and smooth and clear, easy to listen to and his narrative timing is perfect. I definitely recommend this book!!

No Immersion Reading

Audio: Disappointed the Audio and eBook were not Whispersynced to allow for Immersion Reading. Narrator has a very soothing, clear voice that was enjoyable to listen to, but a bit monotone.
Story: Tristan and Upton's story was sweet, though the 'lie' dragged on a bit with the resolution too quick to balance it out. Loved Carter and Barney and their antics!

Sweet and hot

It is a while since I've read anything by Peter Styles. I bought the Worth It bundle a while ago, but haven't started it yet, so this audiobook was totally new to me. However, I had no problem listening to it as a standalone.

I really enjoyed both the story and the reading of it by Nikola Muckajev. I think the author's writing style has matured since I last read him. The story really held my attention and I listened to it over two afternoons. I was always saying "just one more chapter" then listening to another, and then another!

The two main characters seem evenly matched, despite Tristan being somewhat older than Upton. Being a single parent has obviously made Upton mature and responsible for his age. There was always going to be some angst when Upton found out about Tristan's deception, but it isn't drawn out. The love between them is sweet and hot...the best kind...and their kids are adorable.

The narration is crisp and clear, although much is spoken in monotone. Nevertheless, his voice is perfect for someone who is hard of hearing.

Lovely.

I had to stop the narrative when Upton knew that Tristan was going to to be Oliver's laywer...for three hours with my heart in my chest trying to psyche myself up to listen to the massive blowout I knew was going to happen. And blow up it did. I loved this story, how the protagonists met, the little insecurities they had and the misunderstanding they had to sort out. Upton's pain was clear and an as an author myself I know how that blinking cursor can mock you. I loved the heat and soft loving this book had and I think Peter is an awesome author. The only thing I would have liked was the author's slightly monotone voice. There could be some inflection when speaking with the kids or at the parts where surprise, anger and other emotions were had. Overall, though, this was a wonderful book and I look forward to the next audible selections Peter might have,
