Publisher's Summary
Woman in the Wilderness tells how one woman learned to dig deep and push the boundaries in order to discover what really matters in life.
Miriam is a young Dutch woman living in the heart of the mountains with her New Zealand husband. She lives simply in a tent or hut and survives by hunting wild animals and foraging edible plants, relying on only minimal supplies. For the last six years she has lived this way, through all seasons, often cold, hungry and isolated in the bush. She loves her life and feels free, connected to the land and happy. There's a lot of drama out there in the wild, and Miriam knows how to spin a good yarn.
This is a gripping and engaging listen reminiscent of both adventure writing like Wild and nature writing like H Is for Hawk and is perfect for anyone exploring the idea of living a more authentic, real life.

This was a great find! Recommended by a friend and thoroughly enjoyed. I cried when she killed the goat...as though I was right there with her. So well explained and read. Highly recommend for something different.

Felt like I was there
This book put the places into my mind as I was listening. Easier being from NZ where it's set, but I could totally relate to the brutal cold and the experiences without actually doing them myself.
They're so much heartier than I would ever be, but I really enjoyed the story and telling of the challenges.

Life can be different
It’s so easy to fall into the trap of what society tells us life should be, but this story reminds us that life is what we choose it to be. Brilliant story of nature, society and relationships, and connection to self and all.

Inspirational 🌻
What a transportation to the wild side of New Zealand, Miriams writing and Lucy's narration epically had me on the edge of my seat fully lost in the imagery flowing as I listened. I feel so grateful to live in New Zealand and can't wait to go on longer and longer treks as I build resilience. I have found a greater compassion and admiration for the trials and tribulations of going bush and believe more than ever in the endless possibilities afforded by choosing to live free.
