Something darker than the devil stalks the North Carolina woods in Wolf Worm, an original gothic masterpiece from Sunday Times bestselling author T. Kingfisher.

Perfect for fans of Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling.

The year is 1899 and Sonia Wilson is a scientific illustrator without work, prospects or hope. When the reclusive Dr. Halder offers her a position illustrating his vast collection of insects, Sonia jumps at the chance to move to his North Carolina manor house and put her talents to use.

But soon enough she finds that there are darker things at work in the Carolina woods.

What happened to her predecessor, Halder's wife?

Why are animals acting so strangely?

And what is behind the peculiar local whispers about 'blood thieves'?

With the aid of the housekeeper and a local healer, Sonia discovers that Halder's entomological studies have taken him down a dark road full of parasitic maggots that burrow into human flesh - and that his monstrous experiments may grow to encompass his newest illustrator . . .

So gross. So wonderful. I cannot love this author enough. Though this was the first one I had to take squeamish breaks and I recommend not eating yoghurt and muesli at the same time.

Disgusting and excellent

Could not stop reading but honestly made me nauseous at times. As always I love the inclusion academic facts and fields if research that add to the plot

disurbing and captivating

All my favourite T kingfisher elements - relatable heroine, found family, and a creeping sense of dread culminating in a horrifying reveal. Beautifully performed. Highly recommend!!

While listening to this book I had:
1. Colleague ask me if I was ok - apparently I had been sitting frozen for 15 minutes with a look of horror and disgust on my face.
2. Had to stop eating halfway through a curry, threw out a sandwich untouched and the next day didn’t even bother.
3. Ran 30minutes late to a meeting because I sat in the car park unable to stop listening.

This was such a brilliant book - horrifying - but brilliant

Omg it was horrible, nauseating and utterly brilliant!
