Der Wolf wird leider nicht nur in Märchen als böse und hinterlistig beschrieben. Wahrscheinlicher ist aber, dass Isegrim von uns Menschen als Nahrungskonkurrent betrachtet und deshalb über Jahrtausende verfolgt wurde. Dabei war die Art früher auch in ganz Europa verbreitet, wurde jedoch in West- und Mitteleuropa weitgehend ausgerottet. Deutschland wurde erst Ende der 1990er Jahre wieder besiedelt.
