Finding it hard to finish

I am a huge fan of Mark Dawson but the gratuitous shocking gore in this story is too much. The story gains nothing by repeat fine detail of the violence and harm rendered to a young woman in a shocking attack. About half way through. I hope it moves on quickly.

Weak plot, lots of action

Mark Dawson goes back to the early days with Group Fifteen Files when John Milton and Beatrix Rose were Group Fifteen members. The first book in this novella series was titled Scorpion and included Milton as protagonist; it was superb. Witness X suffers from a weak plot (yes, I'm aware that 88 Amazon reviewers gave it an average of 4.8 stars). Lots of action and even very strong suspense can supplement and improve a strong plot line, but without a strong plot fictional books are not worth reading. I still question Mark Dawson's wisdom of taking on coauthors for this novella series. David Thorpe's narration is excellent.

Not loud enough

Could barely hear the narrative on the headphones. I do like the narrator. Hard to have feelings for the main character knowing he has been a bad guy in other novels. Don’t know who to root for.

What's the Plot?

After several attempts at listening to each chapter, I never could figure out the plot. The narrative was impossible to understand, sometimes muddled. Maybe if you are a Brit, you can figure it out. I typically have no problem with foreign accents. Not this one.

Short Story - not feeling like a full novel

I enjoyed the story - but found it a bit short - more like a short story - 25% of a full book, so left unfulfilled on the whole.

Mark Dawson and David Thorpe - Unbeatable

Whether it’s a 2 hour or 20 hour Audible book, the brilliance of Mark Dawson’s storytelling and David Thorpe’s performance can not disappoint. I own and have read them all and can recommend them to anyone who loves being engaged and able to slip into the texture of the stories Mark Dawson creates.

Pretty Good Read

This is a good Group 15 story. It gives you perspective from other Group 15 members. Great plot and great storytelling, as usual. I recommend to those who are fans of Mark Dawson and David Thorpe, as am I. Just as an FYI, the title, Witness X, has very little to do with the actual main story. At the very end of the story, the beginning embers emerge for what was to later happen in the life of Beatrix Rose.

Good novella but only okay narration this time..

Our hero in this book was Bryan Duffy and all I can say is the narrator did a terrible voice for him. Everyone sounded like perfectly speaking English men and women but Duffy sounded like he came straight out of the London rookeries. So I would suggest you don’t listen to this but read it. Unless you like sound of the rookeries being spoken.

Duffy’s old girlfriend, Tamsin, had acid thrown in her face because of something her husband did and it was up to Duffy to find the bad guys, since Duffy worked for Group Fifteen, the same group as John Milton from the Group Fifteen Files and Michael Pope from the Isabella Rose series. All were really good books so I just keep reading Mark Dawson’s books. I’m thinking The Cleaner is next, it’s a John Milton book.

Overall, this was exciting when they got to the company and the battle began. And then it was back to the hospital to see Tamsin. Wow, what a mess her face was, the description was kind of disgusting.

So, as for the swearing? The F-bomb was used ONE time. I have no idea why he would throw that in there. Give me the word a lot or not at all. One time is just silly.

As to the narration: David Thorpe did not disappoint except when he does a woman’s voice and the way he did Duffy's voice, too. (He really needs practice the women to get that better.)

Good story

Good story told from one side. Characters were predictable and under developed. Book could have been longer. Production could have been better.

Full of cliche

Imagine writing the first James Bond book having watched the film first. Every cliche is in this book. The narration is abit embarrassing as the accents of the characters are just as clichéd. Best thing is its short but make your own mind up, it's easy listening.
