Christmas Soap
The first chapter was great! The second chapter sounded like it could be the first chapter. So did the third. The story really dragged to get started. I was tempted at several points to stop listening. I am glad I persevered though. This book is like a soap opera. It goes on and on and on about tiny details. It does not differentiate between big events or little ones. It lulls you in, especially with the very nice and kind sounding narrator. While I had trouble sticking with the story in the first third of the book, it did get more fluent and there where 3 awesone moments that had me laughing out loud. The actually Christmas lunch that I had expected to be the last chapter was dragged out over 10 chapters. There was no climax but instead a thorough description of every Christmassy detail. Actually quite nice for a Christmas book. I think I'll listen to it again closet to the season.

5 Words: Christmas, family, love, kindness...
5 Words: Christmas, family, love, kindness, generosity.
Don't you just hate it when you listen to a sample and all is great and then when you're about 1/4 of the way through you up the speed because it's starting to drag?
I don't think it was the story, although it was rather slow at times, but the narrator had a pretty grating voice after a while.
It was a pretty good story, and although it felt at times that nothing was happening, an awful lot had happened by the end. It was enjoyable enough and did have its funny moments, and when the pace picked up at the end I found myself enjoying it a lot more.

Waste of time
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The family in this story so revolting that I couldn't even get past chapter 5. Couldn't relate to this family , might worked better as a horror story, really disliked it.
Would you ever listen to anything by Carole Matthews again?
No, after this experience I wouldn't take the chance life is too short
How could the performance have been better?
Performance would of improved with better material, one would hope
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from With Love at Christmas?
As I couldn't gat past chapter 5 I would as editor not published story
Any additional comments?
Had promise but this imperfect family just didn't cut it

Loved listening to this at Christmas
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes if they wanted a good Christmas listen
What other book might you compare With Love at Christmas to, and why?
Not my usual type of book so I can't say
Have you listened to any of Julia Franklin’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not particularly emotional, but it fitted the bill for a pre Christmas listen, it was festive, amusing and light hearted but not too much so. Also not just a Xmas romance so suited to an older person with all the Xmas arrangements to make.
Any additional comments?
Not my usual type of listen but brilliant for the time of year. Enjoyed it.

A lovely Christmas story
If you could sum up With Love at Christmas in three words, what would they be?
Lovely, funny, witty, could happen to all of us
What was one of the most memorable moments of With Love at Christmas?
When Holly was born, when Samuel died, and above the carpet scene when Tom came in unexpected
What does Julia Franklin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
She really was Juliette telling her own story; and Julia (or Juliette), was very appropriate
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would have liked to and did listen way into the night in a very few bouts, not getting much "beauty sleep" but it was well worth it.
Any additional comments?
I loved it, will recommend it. I laughed a lot, shed a few tears, guessed early on that it was Myrak in the shed. Carole Matthews is a wonderful author

Disappointingly dull
I have previously enjoyed 'A cottage by the sea' and 'Calling Mrs Christmas' but was very disappointed in this Christmas offering from Carole Matthews. It did appear to be a hastily written piece for the Christmas market with a very flimsy plot and poor characterisation. I found it difficult to like any of the characters and the only thing that kept me listening was Julia Franklin's excellent narration.
