Publisher's Summary

After years in foster care, Breanne Gallagher has the stable life she’s always wanted, living with her foster sister and working as a chef. Then one devastating night, a hellish creature invades her apartment and shatters her fragile existence. Shifting between monster and man, it slaughters her foster sister and assaults Bree. Alone, wounded, her beloved home tainted by gruesome memories, Bree flees to a tiny wilderness town, following her only clue to her past.

Shape-shifting warriors Zeb and Shay move from one pack to another, hunting the hell-hounds which prey on their kind. Assigned to Cold Creek, they manage a decrepit fishing lodge for their "human" cover. Their first renter is a pretty human female who trembles at the sight of them - yet stands her ground. She’s foolishly courageous, ferociously determined, and heartbreakingly hurt. Although shape-shifters aren’t attracted to humans, this female’s beauty and compelling scent ignites longings neither loner ever expected to face.

Bree is healing, learning to shoot the biggest pistol she can find, and overcoming her fears, especially of the two deadly, disconcertingly attractive hunters. Her life is back on track...until she tries to save a little girl from a hell-hound and discovers that everything she knows about herself is false.

Duet narration is awesome!

Oh how I wish all audio books were performed with Duet narration. Duet narration has two narrators that preform the same characters throughout the book. Formerly, if two narrators were used, one did the chapters written from the Hero’s point of view and the other did the chapters written from the Heroine’s POV. As a result, both narrators performed many of the same characters, so the voices weren’t always consistent. Duet is the way to go! I have to admit that the plot was pretty dang predictable. It had many similarities to book one; this was a bit disappointing. So far, this series has fallen short of most of her others. It’s ok but not outstanding. I’m hoping that she just needs to get in the groove, of this world, and the plots will improve. I will stick with the series for, at least, a couple more books. -V from Kansas

So great

I can't get enough of this series. I can listen over and over. Women with resilience, men with dominance and emotional intelligence, shifters and a while lot of steamy goodness. Narration on point. Buy the whole series. Trust me.

Amazing sequel!

Once again, Sinclair does not disappoint!! Continuing this storyline, and building a community you can care about. The narrators do not disappoint as they take on more characters and bring their personalities to life!

Not for prudes!

Anyone who’s read a Cherniss Sinclair book in the past shouldn’t be surprised at the detailed passages of sex between 2 or even 3 - mates in this case. But as with her other work, the books have strong capable women who overcome adversity in a very real way and meet strong vulnerable alpha men. Together, story lines about all forms of love, family and home are explored using shifters and the paranormal. The love and suspense are all written beautifully.

Good story, lots of info to follow

Breanne, Zeb, and Shay come together under crazy circumstances and find a connection that they’ve always needed but never thought they would have. Breanne is trying to find out about her past..she’s injured, scared, and frightened and thrown into a world she never imagined existed. When she figures it all out, she’ll find a strength she never related she had. Zeb and Shay have been killing demons for years. When they are welcomed in Cold Creek, they finally have an opportunity to stop and heal their wounds from the past. Helping Bree is the best thing that could have happened to them..if only they can keep her alive long enough for her to realize it. I enjoyed the story, but there’s a lot of different, shifter rules that aren’t common, so the rituals and assumptions you may be used to are not present here. Bree is strong and fragile at the same time, but I swear she is so impulsive. It makes her loyalty more endearing asa you read. Zeb and Shay have been running for a while so to see them finally settle down and embrace their new calling was good to see. There were many time throughout the story that you wanted to smack all of them and say get over it, but eventually they figured it out. We got to see some new characters whom I’m sure will have upcoming stories, so there is more to Cold Creek moving forward. Alpha men, strong women, and wild sex ..you can’t get any better with a Cherise book.

Good book as usual from Cherise

I realy like the duet narration, and Noah does a great job making the two males sound different.

read the book

if you are not into overdramatic and whiny female narrators, you might want to scip this audible and buy the book instead. the story is rather great, but the leading female in the book sounds through this narrator both weak and whining at almost all times during the narration. I slowed down to 80% speed just to get the sound down to a marginally more acceptable pich.

Sappy fantasy romance, but in the best way!

Love Cherise Sinclair and her books, love this book as well (though maybe least from this series)! Its sappy and a bit predictable, but fun and a good listen if you like these kind of books.

Great escapism!

Love these stories. Read them first then got the audio versions. Callum and his brother are cracking base characters. So are the other mainstays of the village. Love the relationships, the witty and sarcastic conversations plus the idea of secret shifters appeals to me. A race in touch with nature with a strong moral code and a sense of family! What's not to like?! A touch of raunchy, anilastic sex also helps but there are also really tender moments that persuade tears to fall. 5 stars and can't wait for the next. It's one of my favourites!

A really good story with good narration.

So the second in the series and I was not disappointed. For me as good as the first, and although I think this would stand alone it is in my opinion better to read them in order. I really liked Breanne and both Shay and Zeb. I liked the suspense, the emotional tugs and the banal normality mixed in with the believable other-folk world of shifters, brownies, wolfy bits, and hideous hell-hounds. As usual the writing was excellent, easy to read but well thought out and the story flowed well with good pacing, and erotic sexy bits. If you like a different sort of romance or even just want to try it then this is an excellent series to start with. I have read this book several times but recently decided to listen to this as my first audio of this series. I have to say the narrators make a really good job of it. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this as an audible, but I'm glad I gave it a try- well worth it.
