Publisher's Summary
Meet Winter: she’s the audacious, hyper-intelligent GCHQ agent with more notches on her bedpost than James Bond and more hacking cred than Lisbeth Salander.
Winter Dawn is the third instalment in the Winter series, journeying back to the beginning of her story. This time, she’s grappling with Colosseum: a sinister online phenomenon that has gripped the world. It promises a massive cash prize to the successful hunter of its victims, unleashing an unstoppable tide of violence - and the world’s authorities are powerless to prevent it.
When a New York senator is targeted, Winter is called in to protect her. But with all the world watching, there’s nowhere to hide. No one has ever survived Colosseum. It’s the winter solstice and as they journey together into the dark heart of the longest night, they soon discover that nothing about Colosseum is what it seems.
There are rules and there is a purpose, if only they can solve the riddle in time. Colosseum is more than a hunt: it’s a challenge. Targets must face their darkest fear or die at dawn.
Winter Dawn is the third instalment in the Winter series - the first of which was Audible’s Thriller of the Year in 2019 - and journeys back to the beginning of her story.

Psychology graduate
The flow of the story keeps me interested to date but the author is a novice of literary ability. The overuse of similes and alliteration that don’t keep tone with the subject matter stand out like a sore thumb( intentional). Appears as if the author is a psyc graduate that explores a favourite theory

Full of nonsense plot holes that don’t tie to the previous books
Story makes no sense at any level, pull any thread and this unravels. I was a big fan of the first 2 books but this one is just bad and ruins the whole series.
Spoiler alert!
Winter can’t kill and has been using rubber bullets, Complete nonsense
The adjudicator is member of GCHQ, why doesn’t winter just call her handler when she figures this out? And somehow this person has more money than any global government? How? Like in what way is this ever conceivable?
A group of a few hundred hunters can seemingly beat the US military complex on US soil. So so so stupid, if the navy seals could be bought why wouldn’t well funded groups just buy them off.

disappointed
I was completely hooked on the series. I am a massive fan of Winter and pre booked the third installment and started listening to it the very minute it was available. with Such a commanding character lead character and read expertly by Ell as the voice of the distinctly british Winter it threw me Way off when the story was being narrated by another female. the accent of winter was so bad it was like a poor impersonation of the queen. for this reason i was put off and couldn't get into it at all.
it seemed such an unusual choice for this installment to be performed this way. i stuck at it for a couple of hours and i can see from looking at the chapters that there are sections read by Ell but its not for me .
the premise of the story seemed good, i just can't think why the lead roll would be voiced by someone else. For this reason i won't be finishing the title.

Disappointing
Having read the first and second books and absolutely loved them I was disappointed with this which doesn't follow on from the other two but it a prequel of sorts. I also expected the wonderful narration of Ell Potter throughout the book but unfortunately it is only in parts.

Best Yet!!
Couldn’t wait for this new release and whizzed through it at high speed.
All the usual Winter magic is here with the interesting addition of an extra narrator. It takes a lot to equal the excellent Ell Potter but Lorelei King does an amazing job.
Good to see this series isn’t resting on its laurels but upping its game.
Roll on number 4!

Another cracking episode
Winter comes to New York. Another entertaining installment of Winter, this time taking on Colosseum. Clearly the author is showing off a classical background and making a nod towards the bread and circuses of her dystopian reality. "Are you not entertained?" Yes, indeed we are - more cracking fun from Callister.

Awful Prequel
Totally confusing, expecting the next in the series and instead getting this drawn out prequel. And changing to a different narrator, who comes in with a weird plummy accent then other times just voicing Winter as suddenly American - awful. So disappointing after the brilliant narration of Books 1 & 2. This whole story & performance were so different that it might as well have been another series altogether. A real letdown.

Almost broke my love affair with Winter
I almost fell right out of love with Winter while listening to this one, she infuriated me as much as she did GCHQ but it got better and I fell straight back in love.
I am not loving the addition of an American voice but I do appreciate the fact that the voice in question was Lorelei King's
because there's nobody better (in the American category) I just wonder why it was necessary.
So, if you liked one and two you will probably love this too, hate it at first perhaps just as I did but love it in the end. (Except for the weird pictures of Hillary Clinton that will keep popping up in your head, that will be bad but you'll get over it.)

Disappointing
Having enjoyed the the two previous books, which were facinating in a different sort of way, I was really disappointed by this one. The start is promising, but then it just gets more and more boring... the story collapses completely. I almost didn't bother listening to the last 3 hours.

Another Winner for Winter!
I'm a die-hard Winter fan, and it took a couple of minutes to get used to the wonderful Lorelei King narrating the earlier chapters before Ell Potter comes back to do her magic. It's not just the narrator that's changed up, Winter has too. She's grown as a character, and seeing her through the Senator's eyes adds a different dimension, not all of it good, but a hero would never interesting without flaws.
This is as action packed and exciting as an audio book can get, a fantastic listen with constant drama to keep everything moving. I loved it, and despite adoring the first two as well, this is my favourite Winter by far! It shows growth in both the character and writer, and showcases a complex plot that it takes a real master storyteller to manage.
My only disappointment is that it had to end. Audible, please bring number 4 out soon!
