Micah Lennox’s life went off the rails the day he borrowed his boyfriend’s car and caused one injury and one fatality. Daniel Sheridan never forgave Micah for accident and he demanded Micah never return to their hometown of Whisper Ridge. After his prison sentence, Micah has worked hard to get his life back on track but now he must return to Whisper Ridge to protect his family, despite the reception he knows he’ll receive. Daniel has suffered his own trauma as an emergency doctor and he’s returned to Whisper Ridge broken and angry and there’s no way he’ll accept Micah’s return.

This is a pretty miserable enemies-to-lovers / second-chance romance. There was just so much anger, angst, and tragedy swirling around Micah and Daniel that it stretched believability. Any one of the tragic subplots would have been enough, this felt like overkill. I quite liked Micah, he was noble and self-sacrificing. Daniel was so angry and aggressive that he was harder to love, but given what he’d been through I could be patient through his redemption arc. I also liked the family, the townsfolk and the other gay characters who will get their own stories in coming books. And while this felt weighty and broody, it does end positively. 🎧 I’ve always enjoyed Sean Crisden’s narrations but this felt a little rushed. Great work on the emotions and the anguish, though!
