Summary

This is a fun but respectful (and very comprehensive) guide to everything you ever wanted to know about wine from the creator and host of the popular podcast Wine for Normal People, described by Imbibe magazine as "a wine podcast for the people".

More than 60,000 listeners tune in every month to learn a not-snobby wine vocabulary, how and where to buy wine, how to read a wine label, how to smell, swirl, and taste wine, and so much more!

Rich with charts, maps, and lists - and the author's deep knowledge and unpretentious delivery - this vividly illustrated, down-to-earth handbook is a must-have resource for millennials starting to buy, boomers who suddenly have the time and money to hone their appreciation, and anyone seeking a relatable introduction to the world of wine.

Wine for Normal People is exactly what I hoped it would be: smart, fun, and genuinely useful without ever drifting into pretentious territory. Elizabeth Schneider has that rare mix of deep expertise and total relatability, and her narration makes the whole experience feel like you’re learning from a witty friend who just happens to be a certified wine guru.

What I loved most is how clearly everything is explained. Regions, grapes, styles, tasting structure—it’s all broken down in a way that finally makes the puzzle pieces click. No jargon for the sake of sounding clever, no gatekeeping, just real knowledge delivered with warmth and humour.

The Audible version is especially good because Elizabeth’s personality comes through in every chapter. She keeps the pace lively, and the tone makes even the more technical sections easy to follow. The accompanying PDF maps and charts are a great bonus and make it feel like a proper mini‑course. And she pronounces everything correctly so that helps when talking to sommeliers or wine shop staff.

If you enjoy wine, want to feel more confident choosing bottles, or simply love learning about food and culture, this audiobook is a standout. It’s approachable enough for beginners but still packed with insights for seasoned wine lovers.

I was a bit offended of her review of the wine industry in Australia but in 2019 that was probably fair. I think we have raised our game since then!!

Highly recommended from me.

I love this book!
