Publisher's Summary

Annie Lyncroft knew her scheme was outrageous. She'd come to the elegant penthouse to meet Oliver Rain, the richest and possibly the most dangerous man in the Pacific Northwest. Annie needed this sensual, secretive corporate maverick for what she was about to propose. Marriage! With her brother Danny missing after a mysterious plane crash, Annie is struggling to protect his hot electronics company from the sharks who think he's not coming back.

But fanciful, ethical Annie - who usually runs a bizarre bric-a-brac shop knows Danny's alive, and she's determined to keep his company safe by putting his biggest investor at the helm. When Oliver actually says yes to the marriage of convenience, Annie dreamily envisions a few platonic weeks of helping him become a sensitive New Age guy. Oliver has a different plan; his cold, gorgeous eyes have been watching Annie, and he sees his chance to seduce the beautiful schemer.

Love is the wild card destined to teach these two strong-willed opposites a lesson: icy control might run the business world, but all hell is about to break loose in the passionate territory of the heart.

I remember....

I read this in paperback back in the early 90s. Sure it’s dated: no cellphones, no internet, no hookups but what I liked about it then is what I like about it now, a spunky, speak her mind, if he doesn’t meet her half way she’ll go her own way, non-baby track heroine.

Not The Best

I’m a long-time fan of Krentz in all her incarnations, and this is the weakest I have encountered from her.

The male protagonist is so thoroughly unlikable, even at the end, that his behavior borders on abuse.

The female protagonist is an obnoxious, pushy ditz.

Together, they are the opposite of sexy.

This lack of appeal is compounded by a narrator who sounds like the cast of Fargo on speed, even during more intimate parts of the story; her awkward, misplaced word and syntax emphasis made me both cringe and laugh at various times.

Not a favorite

I love Jayne Ann Krentz but, while well written, this leaves me angry. The female protagonist always assumes she know best. The male lead is a hard man for very obvious reasons but she just steam rolls over him pushing her own thoughts and agenda on what is right and not considering his actual feelings ( and valid reasoning) at all. Not sure if it's the portrayal of her by the narrator but she comes off as holier than thou and a know it all.
Having said that, it is very well written to elicit such as strong reaction in me. (I am angry on his behalf).

I feel angry on his behalf

The heroine was supposably helping him communicate and understand others feelings but she does this by stream rolling over his. Everyone complains about and no one is thankful for all he has done for them. Yes he was harsh and controlling trying to protect his family but most of the book is spent putting him down. Everyone treats hims so poorly.

Wildest Hearts

Jayne Anne Krentz has written another best-selling novel. A strong, stubborn, sexy hero and a sweet, caring, sensitive heroine

A Great KRENTZ Classic!!

I've enjoyed thus book many times since I first read it in the 90's. The audio version brings added depth to the characters and highlights the humor.

An early book by JAK

I believe this book was originally published in the early 90s.
I read this book years ago as a teenager and thought it was okay. Recently, I just listened to the audible version (the pandemic has me revisiting old favs) and here were some thoughts.
The hero and heroine are products of their day. He's too closed off - think Alpha A-hole. She's interfering and almost stupidly independent and naive - think yippy chihuahua. The story itself was decent once I came to terms with the fact that I could not like this couple. Another old romance book cliche was used here - the final fight in the last chapter or so that makes it so they have to get back together in the last 2mins of the book. This is unforgivable in mind - but a common trope for the time.
The narrator was just awful. Like a teenage valley girl or something. I've listened to other stuff by her and was not nearly as put off. This was just a bad effort. I might give it another try just reading. Maybe it was the narrator's voicing of the characters that made it such a rough listen and drove me to hate the characters.
JAK's early books generally reflect the era she wrote them in. They were better than a lot at the time but are showing their age at this point. I think it's probably good that she reissues sparingly. Her books are always a treat but her early works should be taken in context.

An old favorite. Read many times, 1st time w audio.

While some may say this early Krentz novel has become dated over time, first published in 1993, it has always been a favorite of mine. The FMC is strong yet flexible. The MMC is rigid, alpha, & basically inflexible but he is also honorable, loyal, sacrificial and trustworthy. He’s a good man who has survived through adversity, creating for his extended family a very successful business. I enjoyed the Journey of the 2 MCs. Wildest Hearts has minimal misunderstandings, angst & drama with the conflict coming from the outside the growing relationship, instead of within which I prefer. I know I will enjoy this audio again in the future.

Truly wild

The challenges and the resulting solutions in this story are unique. The resulting love is crazy and definitely wild. The storyline is unusual but we'll thought out. Of all of her books this is one of the best
